I could be missing someone but I think what I listed below is mostly right. We only have nine players who will be starting in 2005 that were drafted by the Cowboys.

Flozell Adams RD 2
Larry Allen RD 2
Julius Jones RD 2
Jason Witten RD 3
Al Johnson RD 2

Greg Ellis RD 1
Terrence Newman RD 1
Roy Williams RD 1
Dat Nguyen RD 3

Of course, with two #1 picks we could add to the list of players drafted by and starting for Dallas.

It is really amazing that out of that 2002 draft that many of us had such high hopes for only Roy Williams will be starting in 2005.

The really killer part is that if a player is drafted in the first or second round you expect them to be solid contributors. We have had 12 picks in the first and second rounds since Greg Ellis was drafted in 1998 and only Jones, Johnson, Newman and Williams will be starting in 2005.

When you talk about rounds 3-7 things only get worse. We have only found two gems in the later rounds (Witten and Dat Nguyen).

I suppose there is hope for Bradie James, Stephen Peterman, Jacob Rogers, and maybe...big maybe Andre Gurode.

If we do not draft well this year, the future is not very bright. We can not continue to raid other teams 33 year old starting guard and pay them record money.

I am not against the move, but if we do not back these moves up with good drafting starting now it will be all for nothing.

The bulk of our team are Free Agents and we are filling holes with the draft. We should be team comprised of mostly Dallas draftees and filling holes with free agency.

Heh you should see the ravens picks. most of the ravens picks are on their roster. We really need to draft better. But Parcells is doing better then we have after Jimmy left.

You don't see it yet, because Tuna only drafted two years and last years picks are long-term ones (OL) that were injured. The trade for gallowaste cost us two near-lock starters too. so did #8's lobbying for his TE picks all gone bad ;)

Flozell Adams RD 2 --> w/o Tuna would have been cut
Larry Allen RD 2 --> w/o Tuna would have been cut
most of the forum wanted these two GONE pre-Tuna

Julius Jones RD 2 --> brilliant draft move
Jason Witten RD 3 --> top TE
Al Johnson RD 2 --> solid C
Terrence Newman RD 1 --> no brainer
here are 4 above-average starters for years, barring injury

Greg Ellis RD 1 --> old regime pick, not good for a 1st
Roy Williams RD 1 --> no brainer
Dat Nguyen RD 3 --> blah, but ok for a 3rd rounder

To add a point, the last two days showed how important the second day of the draft is too. Everyone talks about day one, but day two is just as important. Jerry shelled out 29 million dollars for three guys who were all second day prospects. Henry was a 4th rounder from South Florida, Rivera was a 6th rounder from Penn State, and Fergy was a 7th rounder from UGA.

I thought I heard today that JR retired? Is that confirmed? If so, another wasted draft pick.

He didn't retire it was just a rumor.

Excellent point, Chicago JK!

I'll also add that Cleveland drafted Henry in the 4th Round of the 2001 Draft...long after we had already drafted Quincy Carter, Tony Dixon, and Willie Blade.

I know hindsight is 20/20, but we could have also had Gary Baxter, Kareem Mckenzie, and Edgerton Hartwell too instead of the crap we drafted that year.
