After discussing the issue with both sides, CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman is now "extremely pessimistic" that mediation will put an end to the lockout.
NFL Network's Albert Breer reported that progress in Friday's talks was leading to growing optimism. Freeman, though, spent the weekend asking around on both the owners' and the players' sides and didn't like what he heard. Unless it's a result of both sides going back to their respective trenches for the weekend, the difference in outlook could just be in Freeman's sources versus Breer's.
Based on discussions with both sides, I'm now extremely pessimistic mediation will lead to a deal.

Isn't there a gag order on these negotiations? (Or did I miss something) If so I can understand why he doesn't like what he hears. If they are following the order he is hearing nothing.

Yeah I would absolutely shocked if he got anything more then Adam or any other well respected insider. Even they admit they are being given very little.

The lockout is going to be lifted by court order, regardless of if a deal is done or not.

Yep, I think that the woman judge, cant think of her name right now, (Judge Nelson I think) will step in, and make the players and owners wish they had come to an agreement. And she will force the issue, making both parties pay in some way, while rewarding us fans with football. :starspin

The question is, if/when the NFL files the appeal, will it stop the lifting of the lockout?

Doubt it. The players will have an injunction against the lockout. The owners can appeal, but usually the trial judge's ruling doesn't change unless and until the appeals court rules against the judge.

Not likely. The owners would have to request a "stay" of the order during the pendency of the appeal. To obtain that, they would probably have to show "irreparable harm" from the temporary lifting of the lockout, and I don't see how they could do so. If they win the appeal, they can just institute another lockout.

NFL Network's Albert Breer reported that progress in Friday's talks was leading to growing optimism.
Wasn't Thursday the last day of mediation before resuming tomorrow?
Or maybe he meant he was talking to his psychiatrist on Friday and after that discussion he personally felt a growing optimism.

a gag order is like a restraining order, if you would abide by one, they are unnecessary, no gag order is going to stop someone from a wink wink nudge nudge conversation

I think they talked for like 10 hours on Thursday and then 2-3 hours on Friday.
Had to get an early job on their 3-day weekend so they couldn't spend much time on Friday but I think they were there.
