Man, this is the toughest one yet. Both were so good.
I'll have to go back to my "Simpsons" argument, and say that Sopranos is greater and more significant in the whole scope of things and in the history of television... but that said, the final season and a half of Sopranos definitely went south.
The Wire was strong from beginning to end and never suffered from that drop off.
I guess I'd give the nod to Sopranos, but the Wire is so strong I'd hate to take anything away from it.

The Wire, because while they were both great dramas, The Wire was simultaneously a damning commentary on the America we've left behind.

Sopranos has actually become underrated
Could never really get into Sopranos, for whatever reason.
The Wire is my favorite show ever.

The Wire.
Taking nothing away from The Sopranos, but The Wire was important and relevant while The Sopranos was just entertainment (not that that's a bad thing).

Ive since appreciated that last season as time goes by and think it holds up very well. Heres my very scattered thoughts on some of it

Song at the beginning of the Season 6 premiere? “Seven Souls” Material feat. William S. Burroughs
In that montage we see the characters who are sinning in some way. Note later in the season Tony telling Meadow “Well hon, when youre living in some w/ a guy…”
When Vito is killed at the end of Moe N Joe we the final shot of the episode is of him in the “Thin Club” calling back the montage from the premiere. The instrumental from the 7 souls song can be heard faintly
Eugene Pontecorvo – Greed (After the inheritance)
AJ – Sloth (Wont do anything)
Carmella – Despair – (I worry Adriana….I worry all the time)
Christopher – Envy (Wanted better status in family then wanted what JT had, killed JT)
Vito – Lust (For Jonny Cakes)
Jonny Sack – Pride(Was always fighting to be boss and it got him put in jail)
Bobby Bacala – Gluttony – B/C he is a fatty And also Janice's geed lead to his inflated status and got him hit
Phil Leotardo – Wrath (Ordering hits and abusing power)
Tony – All of them and the last one killed
7 of these people get killed with Tony being the 7th

The Sopranos. I thought The Wire was a great show, but the Sopranos is in the books as one of the best series ever.

I think Sopranos, Breaking Bad, and the Wire are the 3 best shows ever. In that order, but BB can move into #1 w/ another great season

Who, Tony? It was just my guess based on the haunting opening sequence to that season and the fact that he would be the 7th soul.
If you rewatch that last season it is way better than given credit for and ties a lot of things up.

Sopranos has always been way overrated
I agree.
Wire. It's not even close.

Not a guess. Tony definitely died in the last episode.
