After reading Sdogo's draft prep thread, I found myself doodling around with a mock, and when it was done, I kinda liked it... in my scenario, no dreams come true, Peterson goes early... so the most logical move is, IMO, the Rams 14 and their third rounder...
1) JJ Watt, DE, Wisconsin... it's either him or Castonzo (or however he spells it), and looking at the later picks, it seems the Boys are gonna focus on offense... the landscape with the second round pick helps to dicate this pick, too... I think he has the look of a good NFL 3-4 DE...
2) Danny Watkins, OG, Baylor... I just don't think that Brandon Harris, Aaron Williams or Rahim Moore will be on the board at pick 40... that leaves Watkins, and he could find a role on this team... his age is a legit concern, but we'll run the old horse until he drops...
3a) Johnny Patrick, CB, Louisville... I was lukewarm on Patrick until SDogo told us they see him as a S prospect... I hadn't really thought of that possibility, but I can see it now... he needs to look into adding about 10 pounds or so, though...
3b) Demarcus VanDyke, CB/KR, Miami... I don't get their fascination in him, but I keep hearing they're infatuated, and you're not the only one who's suggested they might right... hey, maybe he can help the return game while they're putting some weight on him... you know what they say, speed kills...
4) Stevan Ridley, RB, LSU... a compact power back who had over 1100 years in his one year as the feature ballcarrier... and he might be able to play some H-back for you too?? Yeah, this makes perfect sense, and the Boys are gonna have an opening at running back pretty soon...
5) Cecil Shorts III, WR/KR, Mount Union... if you decided you like Shorts better than Ridley, you could probably swap their order and still stand a fair chance of getting both, IMO... I think the Boys see a somewhat faster Patrick Crayton in him... for sure, he dominated his level of competition, which is generally a good sign... this is my personal favorite pick, LOL...
6) Byron Stingily, OT, Louisville... I'm just not clear on why this kid isn't rated a bit higher than this... I mean, 315 pounders who run under 5 second 40s are generally in pretty high demand... I think I understand what Hudson Houck likes in him, and I think he'd make a nice project for Hud...
7a) Dial Preston, FB/TE, Alabama... I like the versatility he brings to the table...
7b) Zane Parr, DE, Virginia... this one's a nod to you, SDogo, because I purely don't know what the hades the Boys think they see in him... he's only 280 pounds, a little undersized for a 3-4 DE (but he is coming out early, so he still has some time to add to his frame)... his 40 time is mediocre, he doesn't seem to have an especially quick first step, and he doesn't show much of a burst...
Oh, and he really didn't make that many plays, either...
Anyway, that's my mock, and I'm stickin' to it... at first, I was kind of surprised at how much the later rounds tilted toward the offense, but when you think of it, it makes some sense; Garrett got his current job on the strength of his reputation as an offensive guru... naturally, he's gonna want to put his stamp on the offense, bring in players who fit his mold... after that, the only real surprise is no linebacker, but this draft gives us 2 offensive linemen, 2 defensive linemen and 2 defensive backs... those are, I believe, the team's most pressing needs, so again, this draft makes some sense to me... throw in a power back who could play some H-back, a FB/TE , and a WR/KR...
It'll never happen, but I do believe I'd consider it a successful draft if it did...
