As long as the QBs go like Goose thinks, then Castonzo should fall. He had him at 22 in his mock.

then take pouncey if there or carimi(sp?) or nate solder if we looking for someone to develope (that can be both RT and LT) like t. smith.
but the only way i trade to 17 is if the patriots give us a stunning deal. 17 an 28 or 17,33 and something ese.

Good, even though I'm not a great big fan of Castonzo, but I prefer him to Smith.

If the Cowboys think Costanzo is the best tackle in the draft, you trust your scouts and take the best tackle in the draft. I'm sick of Dallas trading down and taking lower tier talents.

Goose will be the first to tell you to not put too much value in Mocks. He also has him ranked 16th overall in his top 100. Everything points to Castonzo being available at 17.

I don't trust our scouts/decision makers on the OL anyway. Maybe we should just trade back and take whichever one is still there. :o:

I'm actually ok with Sherrod.
I'd guess he go right at the end of the 1st early 2nd.

He also said on Norm last week that if the Cowboys want to make sure they get either T. Smith or Castonzo that they better not fall below 13 or so.
You're taking these rankings and mockdrafts as though it's a hard math and science, when it's anything but. Players are drafted within a wide variance of their rankings. It's hardly some big surprise when a player ranked 13th go 9, or when a player ranked 15th goes 12. Every team's need and board is different.

Same here.
Not that I can claim to have seen any of these guys very much, but I might like Castanzo the least, from what I've seen.
And I guess this could be disinformation, but several of the local guys have gradually turned to saying in the last week that we prefer Castonzo to Smith.

I'm looking at it objectively, he should be there. There are also other players the Cowboys like that should be there. No matter what there will be a very good player at 17.

Costonzo strikes me as solid, but not special. I guess at 9, I want a little sizzle to go with my steak.

As much as I prefer Smith to Castonzo, I'm coming to the realization that the Cowboys could well be going the other way.
As long as the Cowboys are right, I couldn't be happier if that's the player they prefer.
But I just don't see Castonzo as the 9th best player in the Draft. I really hope we can trade down a couple picks and still get him.

Dallas isn't picking at 9. Jerry will trade.
I want my draft weekend to end with Harris, Rackely, and Ellis on this team. Then add Castanzo, Smith or Carimi and I am happy.

Yeah, I mean who could have ever envisioned the Cowboys drafting Felix Jones. Or Anthony Spencer.
Oh wait, everyone did.
If you follow the Cowboys drafts and the Dallas media for any amount of time, you know the locals are usually pretty good at sniffing out who the Cowboys like through their sources.

Well, that's always true. No matter what, I wish people could let go of their pre-draft prejudices a little bit, admit that we don't know how any of these guys will turn out, and just hope for the best.
I know that's too much to ask for, though. ;)

Hell they had us taking Cam Newton a few weeks back. You throw enough names out there your bound to be right.

If they prefer Castanzo to Smith, then I don't trust their evaluation of OL either. The Gooselin board, which is a pretty good indicator of value among NFL teams, has Smith as the 7th rated player and Castanzo as the 16th rated player. That's a pretty significant advantage for Smith.

Can I have a link to that?
All they said was that Dallas did some homework on Newton. I'm sure that's absolutely true. Im sure they did homework and scouting reports on all potential top picks. But I didn't see one single Cowboys beat writer who said the Cowboys were going to pick Cam Newton, so I would love to see your example.
By and large fans way overplay this "misinformation" stuff. Not that there isn't misinformation out there, but it's not teams playing a bunch of James Bond espionage and cloak and dagger stuff, it's more the interwebbings being the interwebbbing and people who don't have ties to teams who just regurgitate a lot of unfounded nonsense.

Yes, this is how the game is played every year.
Dallas media person says "I hear the Cowboys are leaning towards John Doe.
Internet Messageboard Poster A: "Oh please. Like this guy knows. If anything he's being spread a lot of misinformation. I don't believe it."
*Dallas picks John Doe"
Internet Messageboard Poster B: "Look like that media guy was right"
Internet Message Poster A: "Oh please, everyone knew they were picking John Doe. It was obvious."
Glad to see we aren't breaking tradition this year.

Eagles maybe take a CB
Indy takes a DL like Paea
Chiefs take P Taylor
Giants take Carimi
Baltimore and Bears are close to the end of the draft.
Well, it could happen . . . . .

Honestly, if the plan is to take an OT, i really hope we trade down. I don't see any of the first tier OT's that is head and shoulders better than any of the rest. There just isn't that one guy at the position that seems like a lock. I'd be happy with Smith, Constanzo, or Carimi.. and im almost certain we can trade back and still get one of the three at least.
So again, if we are set on OT, trade back and pick up some extra much needed high round picks.

Down the road who knows? Maybe Castanzo goes on to have a better career. Fact is NOBODY knows right now for sure and It's not like Castanzo is chopped liver and being overdrafted by 2-3 rounds.
But any way you cut it sitting tight @9 and picking Castanzo over Smith is a huge disapointment today for most of us that have fallen in love with the idea of having Smith wear the star.

I think its just the fact that most people feel we need an OT more than an interior lineman right now, but i'd be thrilled to get Pouncey.

I give Jerry and the team all the credit in the world for taking their guy and not getting cute.
Now we can all hope that they're right and Tyron Smith becomes this team's Pro Bowl Left Tackle for the next decade plus!
