I've just been looking at the prospect rankings on the NFL Draft Scout/CBS Sportsline website for next year... at this early stage of the process, no underclassmen are included, and the players are only ranked within their position... but I have listed about 60 players on an early spreadsheet, and taking some guesses based on where each players rates at his position, if the 2012 draft were held tomorrow, I might go this way for the Boys:
1) Cliff Harris, CB, Oregon... 5-10, 186 pounds, 4.45 second 40... a number of early first round mocks for next year have the Boys going this way, and I like what I've read about him... FWIW, I really, really like DE Jared Crick from Nebraska, but he's looking like a top 10 pick, and I surely hope we're not drafting that high...
2) Cody Johnson, FB, Texas... 5-11, 250 pounds, 4.65 second 40... no, I'm not kidding... I've been waiting for Cody to graduate for a coupla years now, he's the best college FB I've seen in a long time... in fact, I don't think I'm stretching things to call him a shorter Moose, that's how impressed I am with him...
3) Emmanuel Acho, OLB, Texas... 6-2, 245 pounds, 4.65 second 40... his older brother Sam was drafted this year, Emmanuel will be joining him next year... he's not the pass rusher that his bigger brother is, but he's probably better dropping into coverage... IOW, he's a pure linebacker, not a conversion project...
4) Greg McCoy, CB, TCU... 5-10, 186 pounds, 4.35 second 40... another corner this early might be redundant, but this kid can flat-out fly...
5) Phillip Blake, C, Baylor... 6-3, 316 pounds, 5.2 second 40... the rebuilding of the offensive line continues...
6) DeAngelo McCray, NT, Memphis... 6-4, 325 pounds, 5.05 second 40... this draft is woefully short on big nose tackle types, McCray might be the best of them...
7) Lance Kelly, S, Louisiana-Lafayette... 6-3, 205 pounds, 4.45 second 40... a tall DB with good range...
Just for fun...
