“As prominent NFL man says, please ignore concept being floated that NFL could shut down business if lockout lifted,” Mortensen writes on Twitter. “Not a chance, he says.” Mortensen later dismissed Goodell’s failure to take the option off the table by saying without elaboration, “I wouldn’t use it as a barometer of what’s real here.”

“As prominent NFL man says ...,” Mortensen writes on Twitter. If it were within my power, I would utterly eliminate the use of 'anonymous sources' whenever the 'need' arose within the framework of noncritical commentary. Now, please excuse me. The defenders of the First Amendment wish to tar and feather me for my opinion.

If the owners get desperate enough they would.

You mean PFT reported something that turned out to be false? I'm shocked.

For clarity, we never said the league had decided to shut down if forced to open the doors to players. We reported that it was an option being discussed.I'm sure Florio and his cats had a lively discussion about it before he "reported" it.

No way in hell teams are shutting down all business services (especially the sales and marketing people).

This is as ridiculous as the "OMGZ, Teh Playerz Are Going to File At Teh Last Minutez To Stopz the Draftz !!!!!" crap the owners flooded fans with to scare people. The sad part is, a lot of people actually bought it.
