I found it highly over rated and very boring.

I also just watched Watchmen recently and found it about the same...Maybe if I had read the graphic novel I would have liked it better but it was still slow and boring to me.

Gran Torino and Taken were the best DVDs I have watched in some time.

Gran Torino was great. Taken was absolute garbage. So much Dues Ex Machina in that movie, so much of it is so much luck.

Star Trek was the last good movie I saw in theaters. GI JOE was the last awful movie I saw in Theaters, shoulda known better than to watch a movie with a Wayens brother in it.

I liked taken except for the daughter. I don't remember what age she was supposed to be in the film, but she acted like she was 12 while looking 24.

I caught Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus on SyFy the other day. This is perhaps the worst movie made in the new millennium. However, it has one of the best scenes for illiciting unintentional, uproarious laughter you will ever see.

Good acting, not a very great movie, and it just made me think poorly of Ali...which a lot of these movies about "great" people tend to do, like the Ray Charles one, and Walk the Line.

I think that Chris Nolan is talented and a fine director, but I also think he's a little overrated. He's a good Hollywood director but not a great film maker, in my opinion. I just don't see the same "wow" quality out of him that directors like Sam Mendes, Sophia Coppola and Darren Aronofsky show.

I'll easily take Nolan over Mendes or Coppola. Coppola is laughable really. Aronofsky does have a certain panache to his films that could set him apart, but Nolan has yet to completely whiff as Aronofsky did on "The Fountain". Meandering and sort of a mess.

I'd take Nolan over Aronofsky, too.

Nolan opened with a bang with Memento, his poorest effort to date was probably Insomnia, but that's still a decent flick. I feel as if The Prestige is underrated. He then went on to make two epics in BB and TDK.

I wouldn't call him the cream of the crop as directors go, but I just thought it was an odd trio you would choose over him.

I thought the Fountain was the first movie Aronofsky DIDN'T completely whiff on, and it still wasn't great. The Wrestler was a vast improvement, and the only movie he's done that I'd put above below average. Even that is highly overrated. Coppola hasn't done anything I've been too impressed with.

I wonder if the remake comes close?
Silly question, the last remake made that was worth a darn was Scarface.

Recent video's of older some lesser-known movies that I really enjoyed.
All were at least an 8 and I'm a tough judge

Door-to-Door William Macy & Helen Mirren are 2 of my favs. This movie is going to stay with me for awhile
The Beast - A Russian tank crew lost and alone on the Afghan plain
Shutter - I didn't see the end coming. Horror films that make me gasp with surprise get extra points
Come and See - OK, Enjoy might not be the right word
No Mans Land - See above
Children of Heaven - The only Iranian movie I have ever seen, simple & haunting. A must see.
Stagecoach - I finally saw it! Ford was a genius. I might still prefer The Searchers but.....

Away We go - 10/10

This movie stars John Krasinski (The Office) and Maya Rudolph (SNL) who do an amazing job. Didn't think either were great serious actors but man, they were great. Directed by Sam Mendes (Road to Perdition, American Beauty). I loved Mendes other movies but I actually like this one more. Very funny and very touching. Didn't realize how much so going in. Way more deep than I thought it'd be. It's kinda one of those offbeat type of comedies/love stories (Garden State, Election)...might not be for everyone. It's about a couple about to have a baby and go on a road trip to see friends, family, job interview etc. Great direction, great script. Only movie I've seen recently where I can't think of one flaw.

I was curious about seeing this. Is it overrated and like Blair Witch? It is overrated and it is like Blair Witch, only in a house and with a tripod.

I personally liked Blair Witch a lot when it first came out. In large part that was because the "actors" were so real. In PA, the actors are terrible and it pulls you out of the suspended disbelief. It's obvious they're just crappy actors reading lines. The movie does a good job of creating suspense, though, but it could have been much, much more. Worth watching, but too many flaws to get above a 6/10 rating.

The true story of Aileen Wuornos, a Daytona Beach prostitute who murdered several men in the early 90's. It was a disturbing and engrossing motion picture.

Indeed. It tells in the "extras" how it was done. Miss Theron had to gain several pounds for the role. If you remember this was the year The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King ran away with everything.

I enjoyed the old Dallas Police Department footage. Historic. But it also showed what a joke Jesse Curry and that department was then. Walking the alleged assassin back and forth down a hallway crowded with reporters and who knows who else (people like Jack Ruby). Parading the alleged murder weapon down the hall. Curry trying to backpedal about the report that the FBI had interviewed Oswald prior to the assassination .... That department was a disaster.

And the title should be "4 Shots that Changed America." ;)

The book was MUCH better. This was the worst adaptation thus far by a whole bunch (I still think Phoenix is the worst movie though because it was easily the worst and most pointless book of the series). The sad part is that they nailed a good portion of it perfectly, but the parts they got wrong they got very very wrong.

Paranormal activity....6/10 I guess.

Nothing scary, and very similar to Blair Witch, but with much more structure. The male "character" was really just an annoyingly stupid moron.

I had to look away from the screen for a good portion because I hadn't eaten anything this morning, and my neck injury was really messing me up earlier. Combine that with the parts where the camera was moving around and I just felt awful and nauseous. It's not the the camera was really shaky or anything, it's just those other factors killed me. It's not even 1/4 as shaky as Blair Witch or Cloverfield.

Thankfully almost all of the relevant and interesting bits were when the camera was still.

Videodrome 8/10

Videodrome is a psychological thriller/horror film released in 1983; however, I had never seen it prior to last night. I was only aware of it because of its inclusion in Bravo's 13 Scarier Movie Moments (the sequel to Bravo's 100 Scariest Movie Moments).

Videodrome is a surprisingly engaging and poignant film, lampooning the overly sensationalist, media-driven aspects of our society. It also blurs the line between reality and perception -- giving it a striking similarity to another film from the same genre, Jacob's Ladder. Both manage to transcend a genre laden with formulaic, B-rated storylines.

If you enjoy intensely pyschological films and you're not made squeamish by gore, I recommend this movie.

90's B movie about A man who works in a cemetery and the people come back from the grave (returners). However it is also a comedy and a twisted love story of sorts. It is a foreign film so it is not the normal B movie.

Classic Western. Story of Four Brothers reunited at their Mothers funeral. And their hunt for the truth behind their fathers death. Stared John Wayne, Dean Martin, Earl Holliman and Martha Ayer as Mary.

The most time wasting POS film I have seen in at least a week. It's sole redeaming quality was that for some reason the wardrobe department could'nt find Eva Mendes a shirt that would button more than half way up.

i was really excited for this movie when i first saw the preview, and it was a projected R rating....but when i heard it got the PG-13 rating i knew they had to cut out what would have made it funny so i will wait for the unrated version on dvd.

on a side note a want to personally thank the people that rated the hangover R and not NC-17 cause alot less has gotten the NC-17 rating before and it would have robbed us of one of the funniest movies of all time.

and i want to hit the guys on the head that are making the sequel...i just know it wont live up

Battlestar Galatica The Plan

Ok it helps to understand this if you were a fan of the "new" series. Basically the Cylons who were built my man as a slave race evolved and revolted. There was a war and a unsteady truce between mankind and the Cylons lasted for many years.
Till one day...The Cylons who evolved new models who "look human" decided to attack and destroy humanity. There were 12 Cylon human models and the model "One" played by Dean Stockwell was the archetect of...The Plan
Basically the plan was to sneak attack and nuke the humans to death. But some escaped and the story involves the various Cylons who were "in the fleet" scheaming together to sabatoge what is left of humanity on Galatica and it's the rag tag fleet. The movie follows two number one's. One on the planet cobal and one in the fleet posing as a priest and their escapades.
Lots and lots of cities and stuff blowing up, lot's of drama and evil scheaming and murder . And even some nudity...

As a fan I give it 10/10 as an objective outsider it would be about 7/10 as a space shootem up.

Transformers: Rise of the Fallen - 6/10

spoilers to follow
-------------------------

Liked:
- Almost everything with O-Prime, especially the forest fight
- Sam making fun of frat boys tight shirt

Disliked:
- Constantly spinning camera and too-close action shots
- The hip-hop influenced "twins"
- Robot disguised as a human
- Autobot "heaven" scene
- Movie too long, final fight between Optimus and Fallen/Megatron way too shortFinally saw this yesterday.

I think I'd give it a 5 out of 10, pretty much echoing your likes and dislikes. But I would add to the dislikes the flat our RETARDED scene with Sam's mom and the pot brownies. I almost turned it off right then. I also disliked the final fight scene. It was too short, and the Super Prime was kind of like wth just happened, and what can he do now?

Oh and I'd add Megan Fox to the likes, but that's kind of a given.

Where The Wild Things Are

8/10 - Definitely a good movie, but didn't strike me as an instant classic or anything. It did remind me of being a kid and James Gandolfini (AKA Tony Soprano) was a perfect pick for the main monster seeing as how he can go from friendly to homicidal with the flip of a switch.

It wasn't really a kids movies, although they certainly tried to pitch it as one, more of a movie about being a kid. The effects were great, I love the mix of CGI and puppetry, seems like the only way they could have done it really.

8.75/10

I thought it was a really good sequel to continue the story they've got going and they did, once again, a great job of tieing a lot of things in from previous movies to keep you constantly paying attention to even the smallest details from movie to movie cause you never know what you'll see that is a clue to reveals later on. Solid effort from the franchise for sure.

Of course that is if you're a Saw fan. If you're not then you wouldn't like this one anymore than you liked any of the others you saw.

I liked it though.

It was a very good movie for a sequel. The one major issue I had with it was the fact that they upped the language in it far beyond what it should have been. Kids love Transformers and all the foul language was unnecessary. A word here or there is one thing, but if was every two seconds somebody was firing off a word I would rather my nine year old son not listen too.

Well it's based off a crappy graphic novel, but they didn't even stick to that, they decided to take something bad and make it worse. There was absolutely no reason for Angelina Joelie to be in that movie either other than for box office draw, she sleep walked through the entire thing and I already don't think much of her acting ability anyway.

It's based I believe on the short story "Super toy's last all summer long,"
Though Brian Aldiss bristles at being pigeonholed as a sci-fi writer, the British author has won every major science fiction award. He has also sparked director Stanley Kubrick's imagination with the short story "Super-Toys Last All Summer Long." First published in Harper's Bazaar in 1969 and later anthologized, this tale of humanity in an age of intelligent machines and of the aching loneliness endemic in an overpopulated future is the inspiration behind Kubrick's ongoing AI project. Aldiss's story offers richly suggestive details.
After Mr. Kubrick's death,Steven Spielberg took up the project and brought it to the Silver screen.

Great action flick. Story itself is pretty blah but I'm a sucker for a good ninja flick. As long as you're willing to roll with it, it's a good time. I'd say easily my favorite part of the plot is the ninja training and the interaction between them, the cop stuff was boring as hell.

Movies like this bother me. It's like someone had the idea of what they'd like to happen, but in reality never would. It's like self gratification on somewhat of a budget.

Angels & Demons

Tom Hanks is back as symbologist Robert Langdon in a "follow up" to The Da Vinci Code. Story is a bit predictible and the acting is just above average. The story revolves around the passing of the Pope and the election of a new one. Four of the leading Cardinals have been abducted and are to be killed one by one till Midnight when the Holy city it's self will go BOOM!
The cinatogrophy is outstanding, it is a wonderfuly visual movie. And you would never know it wasn't shot in the Vatican and St. Peters square. Absoulty wonderfuly done, by Ron Howard.

Rated PG-13 for some mild violence.

This movie bored me a great deal.

That's pretty disappointing, especially after I keep hearing about how cool it was. The story was pretty non-existant, and what was there was awful. The entire police/researcher aspect of the movie was horrible and just completely uninteresting. The acting was pretty atrocious as well, from pretty much everyone.

The action was ok at times, but fairly repetetive, and the last battle was extremely stupid. There's only so many times you can see a bunch of throwing stars fly by and a bunch of blood in bad CGI before it gets really old. There's lots of blood, but it's totally fake, either by being poorly done CGI or having the consistancy of water.

This really is a movie that should have been straight to DVD. That's the level of filmmaking involved here.

The Blind Side 8/10.

Read the book a couple of years ago and was interested to see the movie. Very good. Sandra Bullock was great as usual. The kid who played Oher did a nice job ... especially with the facial expressions, which mostly was what he did. Tim McGraw was solid.

It was funny and good to watch all the SEC coaches plays themselves in cameo roles.

Some may think it's too nice, sappy, and sweet, but a film like this is a welcome change amongst all the crapola Hollywood produces.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall - 1.5 out of 10

One of the least funny, and stupid, comedy movies I've seen in recent years. I was greatly disappointed by this movie cause I happen to like a few of the comedy people in it and it just turned out to be terrible. I'm sure there are quite a few out there who thought it was hilarious but to me it was just junk. Right up there with Observe and Report for complete crap.

Funny People - 3 out of 10

Big disappointment as well but only because I figured for more out of Adam. I'd said after seeing Observe and Report that I'd never watch another movie where Seth Rogan was one of the main actors but I stupidly let myself be talked into watching this. I know, for sure, now that I'm really not interested in watching any movies where Seth Rogan is one of the main people in it. His movies are just awful.

Old Dogs - 6 out of 10

It wasn't bad but it wasn't really as good as I thought it would be. A bit of a disappointment after seeing the advertisements. It still had some funny moments and the family enjoyed it so it wasn't a total bust or anything. I wasn't upset that I bothered to watch it so that's a good thing.

Terminator Salvation

To be honest all these Terminator movies are starting to run together. This one takes place durring the "war" and centers around John Connor searching for Kyle Reese. He is aided by a Terminator that thinks it's human, because it was! Untill it was put to death for murder decades ago?
It was never quite explained how... Anyway it helps Connor infiltrate Skynet" and rescue the young Reese (and a bunch of others). But not before Connor is "mortaly" wounded by a very convincing CGI Arnold Terminator.
The ending is espicaly stupid and unrealistic.

6/10 for very good CGI effects aka Arnold.
It had a cute kid in it so it lost a whole point right there, and the story sucked.
