Chamber's arguments: 1) NLRB must "decide whether...NFLPA retains its duty to bargain"; 2) Norris-LaGuardia = Nelson can't grant injunction.

The specific terms of the new offer made Monday by the NFL to the players have not yet been leaked. But NFLPA* president Kevin Mawae made the players’ generally feelings on the offer clear during a Tuesday segment with Adam Schein and Rich Gannon of SiriusXM NFL Radio.
Mawae told Schein and Gannon earlier today that the league and the players “are not anywhere closer to a deal now than we were in March (http://twitter.com/#!/AdamSchein/status/70535873460043776).”

Lockout's still on. No football. Good times. Glad the owners got their stay.
On the real, any "breakthroughs" that might have occurred were likely lost when the 8th Circuit issued the stay.

So they need to be absolutely, positively sure that they'll lose in the courts before they'll start negotiating again?
OK.
And when that ruling comes down on June 3rd, they'll have even less leverage than they do today.
And if I were the NFL the next offer would be less than this one.
And so on, and so on, and so on.
The NHL players found out the hard way too.

It's entirely possible they basically just reiterated the previous offer with some slight changes, which would obvious not be palatable to the players.

What a way to show your bias.... Many on this board would say the owner's came to the table again with another proposal in good faith and as usual the players turn their noses up and run for the courts.

I think that would be pointless. If the judge were to award them money from the tv contract thing, the owner's would appeal that ruling as well. There are many ways to delay in the legal system, and delay benefits the owners, IF they can delay long enough to force the players to feel the economic pinch. IF the playes can weather the storm, I think the delay will hurt the owners in the long term.

I don't hear anything regarding the players doing anything with that proposal. Just like they never did anything with the last proposal they received. Pretty hard to negotiate with just one side doing it.

I'm not giving anybody a free pass, but I see one side negotiating in vain while the other cries to the courts and the public.
And when the next ruling comes down, they'll really have something to cry about.
At that point, they'll be negotiating from a position of even less leverage.
Maybe by that point the majority of players will realize that they're being managed by a 'ship of fools'.

Real short. The owners were the guys who made the last offer as well, an offer the players did absolutely nothing with. Even a lousy offer is at least a form of negotiating.
Is that a prediction or a guarantee? You better be clear about it, because I've seen some pretty nasty insults going back and forth over that distinction.
I'm not interested in insults - getting or receiving. Just interested in conversation and when appropriate some spirited debate.
But given the recent verdict and the strong wording which accompanied it, I would say that it's a virtual certainty that the players will lose this next round.

Just got done listening to an interview on Sirius/XM NFL Radio (highly recommended channel by the way).
It was with William Gould Stanford Law Professor and former head of the NLRB.
He paints a very grim picture for the players.
He stated that their lone option at this point is a large amount of damages from Judge Doty as a result of the TV lockout deal - and even that is subject to appeal so the players won't get any of that money for a while.
They could potentially try to use that judgement as leverage to get a better deal but there's no guarantee of that either. And such a move and subsequent loss on appeal to lead to and ever lower offer from owners.
He said they're done as far as the court battles are concerned and will be fortunate if the owners don't present an offer lower than the one they got in March.
He stated that the offer in March was made during both an uncertain legal climate and before the players went to litigation. Those moves could result in a lesser offer than they received before and they have little choice at this point.
It was felt that De Smith and Co should get back to the table ASAP for fear of the post June 3rd offer being substantially less.
Mr Gould seemed to indicate that this 'battle' is essentially over and the sooner the players realize it the better.

I think you have to know the terms of the "new" offer to make any determination there. It's entirely possible they basically just reiterated the previous offer with some slight changes, which would obvious not be palatable to the players.
It's abundantly clear that what the owners want and what the players want is not even close to palatable to the other side.
I'm not sure what kick in the head will get either side to really alter its stance, other than a third party drawing up and agreement and forcing them to agree to it.

It's all about numbers though. This lockout, the media coverage, etc is great for business. It drives up the demand for football, makes advertisers nervous, and starts to make everyone really step back and understand exactly how valuable football is to their lives.
It's much more than just a game to many of us. I'm not ashamed to say I 'need' football. It helps me get through the daily grind, lets me see my dad every Sunday for 5 months, and gives me something to be hopeful for.

On the real, any "breakthroughs" that might have occurred were likely lost when the 8th Circuit issued the stay.
if the appeals court agrees with the NFL, then maybe we will finally see progress because as long as the players win in court what would motivate them to negotiate. Same for the league really, they get the stay and lockout remains, no money made, both sides will wanna get something going in talks.
If no lockout, then players can basically ask for whatever they want and earn what they have been until they get it.
Best thing is for there to be no football until something is agreed on.
