Only two Eagles show up for Thursday's players practice
6/3/2011 10:16:10 AM
Only two Eagles players showed up for Thursday players practice according to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer (http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/inq-eagles/And-then-there-were-two-Eagles.html). Those were quarterback Mike Kafka and wide receiver Jeremy Maclin.
While some other NFL teams have had as many as 30, 40 or 50 players, the Eagles have generally drawn somewhere between six-twelve players for informal workouts.
"I look at it as in when you have a passing camp, I think, the guys that should show up are the quarterback, running back, tight end and receivers," Maclin said. "I don't see no reason that we should have a whole defense on the other side of the ball or the linemen going out there. ... More power to other teams if that's what they feel like is necessary and is going to help them be successful."
Kafka had more than just Maclin to throw to on Thursday, though. Maclin brought along Rams receiver Danario Alexander and two undrafted free agents -- receiver Marcus Harris of Murray State and cornerback Kevin Rutland of Missouri.

Have to admit it does show poorly for the Eagles.

Must be something about Philly...
We're talking about practice man. We're talking about practice. We're talking about practice. We're not talking about the game. We're talking about practice. When you come to the arena, and you see me play, you've seen me play right, you've seen me give everything I've got, but we're talking about practice right now. ... Hey I hear you, it's funny to me too, hey it's strange to me too but we're talking about practice man, we're not even talking about the game, when it actually matters, we're talking about practice ... How the hell can I make my teammates better by practicing?

Didn't someone on this board think that payer led practices were a bad idea because of the chance of injury? If this lockout lasts into the actual season, then every team is going to be behind in preparation. If they aren't taking steps to prepare now then they are really going to struggle once real football begins. Player led practices may not solve everything, but it is much better than doing nothing. I am all for the Cowboys getting out there working together and learning to count on each other. That is what a good team needs.

No, in fact I love it Hos, why you say?
Because that means to me, the eagles players arent taking it seriously, and they could be fat and out of shape come football time.
Wooohooo! Eagles might be a push over this year, and run out of gas at end of year by not being in tip top shape. :starspin

Joe, I'm pretty sure he means you would freak out if it were the Cowboys that had only 2 show up. It's ok, you're probably concentrating too hard on ways to sabotage Tony's golf cart and hide his clubs to focus on the meaning of some thread title in the CowboysZone. ;)

Have you ever taken the time to just look up in the sky from time-to-time?
Have you ever seen how jets leave contrails streaking across the sky?
After seeing them, have you ever thought to yourself, "Wow. They are flying past me really really high overhead."
Well, if so, that's the thread title for ya. ;) :)

I do that all the time, ponder what the LORD is doing up in heaven, how he made things, what makes a cloud, I feed my pidgeons and doves, and dogs. Play some video games, to relax unwind. And get back to cowboys stuff, posting etc...

The fact of the matter is even with coaches present some of these guys miss OTAs for other obligations. You've become too fixated on a Dallas Cowboys Utopia where every player is an Eagle Scout, with no private life, no outside interests, and no other purpose in life.
No team can live up to what you expect of the Cowboys players. I just wanted you to see this and realize it. The reason there were only 2 Eagles players could be as simple as the fact that Vick wasn't calling the practice and some wanted to be there for ones he calls. Kafka is at best 3rd string as long as Kolb is still there.
If anything Maclin should be praised more than the Eagles bemoaned.

I do buddy, I am enjoying it. Again, I cant think of things like that or witty stuff, just doesnt work for me. But I loved the post you made, was good.
I do realize that, but thats who i am. I am like the guy, there was this movie about a high school football coach, that drilled that into his son, and his son lost a big championship game, but the son knew there was more to life than football. (I realize that too, I go fishing sometimes, video games, movies, church), but when it comes to Dallas Cowboys football, I eat, sleep and drink it, like my war room, which states that I think. Anyway, the son left to go on with things in his life, and the dad was down in the cellar running fooball plays on film etc, and not paying attention to the son. That is me in a way, with the dallas cowboys. I view myself like a vince lombardi, or jimmy johnson, when its time for football, OTAs, minicamp, etc.. then it should be football, nothing else. Hope that explains how I think.
But at same time Hos, I fish, play video games, watch movies, like I have 1600 movies on dvd's saved. When, I get tired of football, like the lockout, sometimes I just get away from that, and play video games, or watch movies. Like right now, I am watching McCahans, how the west was won series. I know players have a life too, but i guess i am old school, lombardi or jimmy johnson, when football time, its dallas cowboys football nothing else.

I think it is bad idea for free agents to show up. Get injured and you might never get another contract from any team.
