•The Sports Business Journal reports today that NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith made $2.45 million last year and that his current term ends next March. Depending on how this lockout plays out, I wonder if he’ll get much opposition for another term.

After the pre-asterisked NFLPA elected DeMaurice Smith to serve as its executive director, without obtaining pre-approval by the four finalists of the specific terms of employment, a contract had to be negotiated. Smith reportedly wanted a four-year commitment, and the NFLPA offered three. When the contract was finalized, the length of the deal remained a secret.

Daniel Kaplan of SportsBusiness Journal reports that Smith ultimately signed a three-year deal.

I wouldn't re-ink him.

Well, until the new CBA comes out it's going to be hard to say.

Sure, I haven't like his PR game and Nostradamus predictions dating back almost two years regarding the lockout but if it comes out in the end that he gets the players a better deal, it's hard to argue he hasn't earned a re-up.

He'll probably get another contract extension. :(

Does anybody actually think the players will get a better deal out of all of this?

I would imagine the players are going to be giving something back.

A win for the NFLPA is probably not getting too far away from the status quo and keeping the owners from bullying their way into higher profits.

A failure on Smith's part would be a delay to the season or just bending over and giving the owners an additional $1 billion like many on this board seem to want the players to do.

I would imagine, they didnt even put up much of a fight w/ their first giveback of $300M

That was the early sentiment. It was baffling

De Smith approached this like he had already made a packed with the Debil. Players will be better served in the future looking else where for high quality H2o.
