Flyers just traded away BOTH Jeff Carter and Mike Richards in seperate deals earlier today. Received the 8th pick in this years draft and 3 young guys back, two of which were former top 10 draft picks.

Also signed the goalie Bryzgalov to a 9 year friggin deal.. 51 million.

Very interesting move by the Flyers.

I know the late season swoon they had really looked ugly. This team seemed disinterested. They've been running coaches out of there on a rail for several years now. I guess it's about time the stars of the team took a beating for this squad underachieving.

They gave up some offensive firepower for sure.

I'm not sure either, but the Flyer defense is solid. I'm not sure Philly could have found a better quality goalie under the present circumstances.

He's a great goalie.. glad we signed him. The only things im questioning are moving a 26 year old guy like Richards, who we had locked up for the rest of his career at only about 5 million a year, who's one of the best young leaders and 2 way players in the game. You don't just replace guys like that. Also, signing Bryzgalov for 9 friggin years is a bit much.

Carter i was fine with getting rid of. He's lazy as hell. I wish we'd gotten rid of Hartnell and Versteeg too. I just hope now we sign Leino and Zherdev back and make a move for a proven scorer in FA.

I don't know. Hard to put that on one man. The horrible goaltending also had alot to do with it i believe, and being without Pronger in the lineup. Richie can't go out and play for these guys though.

Courtier (i think that's how you spell it) seems like a great pick at number 8 though, i agree. He was said to be ranked as the top prospect overall at one point, and was number 5 overall supposedly. Don't know why he fell, but its lucky for us. He seems like a Richards clone a little, great 2 way player who can put points on the board and win faceoffs.

As for Bryz seeing alot of pucks next year, i highly doubt it. One player is not a big part of having a very solid D. Our 3 defensive units were arguably right up there with the best in the league. We have a very good corps of defensemen. I hope we sign O'Donnell for one more year. He and Mezaros were our third pairing for most of the year and those two were up among the league leaders in plus/minus. That's how good our D was.

But when you have a team that underachieves, you gotta shake up the roster now and again. I think they got acceptable value for the guy and they cleared out a bunch of cap space.

As to the leadership issue, i think alot of it was perception, because multiple players have come out and said the locker room issues were completely overblown. There may have been a little issue, but im sure locker room chemistry isn't perfect anywhere in the league. They are grown men, and not everyone is going to get along all of the time. I don't doubt his ability as a leader and as a player after what i've seen from him for 7 years now. He's had success at pretty much every level he's been at.

I think the perception was, that he's a partier, he's too quiet to lead, he's not good with the media, etc etc.. but i don't think that accurately defines him as a person or player. I really feel like this came down from Snider, who should let Homer do his job because he's a great GM. Snider openly admitted he was the guy who basically forced us to trade for and find a way to sign Bryzgalov. I know he loves hockey, and he's a great owner, but like Jerry, needs to stick to that.

I think if we had traded Carter and gotten Courturier and Vorceak, and held onto Richards, we would be contenders this year. We'd still have had enough cap space to sign Bryz too. Now, im not sure we are serious cup contenders.

We're talking a guy who is the face of the team, puts up 70 points a season, sets up his linemates well, plays great defensive hockey, played alot of minutes on the PP and the PK, etc..

Please don't try to tell me he isn't a great player and that Schenn or Vorceak will be able to fill his role this season, that's just hogwash. It'll take alot of stepping up by more than a couple guys to fill what we lost in him. I don't think he's a top player, its a given that he's a top player.

Agreed. If we are preparing ourselves to make a move for Stamkos, im not sure if that's the right call. That'd be two huge contracts we take on in less than 2 weeks and would put us right back where we were in salary cap trouble. We're going to need space to sign some of the young players we have on this team. I'd be all for getting Stamkos, but how much will it cost us in the long run and would one player be worth putting us right back in salary cap trouble?

Haha.. its a legit question, and one that i get alot.

When i was growing up, the first game i saw that i can remember on TV was a Cowboys vs. Eagles game, and i remember being really into the Cowboys uniforms.. and also my dad was rooting for the Eagles so i started rooting for the Cowboys and i've liked them ever since lol.
