I'm going with Private Joker from Full Metal Jacket. I love the whole duality of man thing,

(Born to Kill / Peace Sign)

Joker was great, but Ermy was gold in that. Animal Mother gets a nod too.

An unsung forgotten is Kirk Douglas as Colonel Dax in Paths to Glory. Excellent movie, great role..

Screw that... It counts.

The best ones are the real ones anyway...That's why I liked the Band of Brothers character so much.

Not really a military character but a character that was kind of pushed into a duty to help the military.

Carey Grant in Father Goose.

The scene with the fish always cracks me up...

[catching a fish barehanded. A fish swims toward them]
Walter Eckland: [In a hushed voice] Hey, here she comes again.
Catherine Freneau: How do you know it's a "she"?
Walter Eckland: Her mouth is open, now be quiet.

Tom Hanks in forest Gump.

He was a hero and a guy that lived a crazy life without much want in the world besides a girl that he loved.

He gave almost everything he had away and got shot saving 5-6 guys lives.
