He is not the pro-bowler of past years
Can he contrbiute on a team still?
I say yes he can contribute and would be better as solid depth but what is he looking for money wise.
Just remeber he is not the Pro-Bowl version of Gildon

I don't think he is being closed minded. I would like to have Gildon as well but I'm not going to kid myself to think he is the same player he was in his prime. Gildon could provide some team quality depth as well as situational substitution but as an every down player sorry he is not the same player he once was.

I never said he was an everydown player. He's my situational 3-4 DE/LB type!!!!!!!!!!!

If he wants a hughe signing bonus then no
If he wants a 1mil bonus and a salary that is not stupid would he be a good edition for depth and flexibilty on this team yes
But also remeber we are suppose to have Bradie James in the wing does he play the same side as Coackley and James or does he play on Jackson side or can he play both sides
How healthy is he ? he did have a minor knee injury recently if I remeber correctly
These are questions ? That need to be answered

He would be a nice addition to the Cowboys, though I don't suspect he would settle for the role that you've put forth here. He could do worse, though.

While his soon-to-be former teammates practiced outside in the fresh air, the most productive pass rusher in Steelers history worked out alone in the dimly lit indoor facility Tuesday -- wondering about the team that has forsaken him and unsure if his NFL career will stretch into the 2004 season.
Steelers coach Bill Cowher has told former Pro Bowl outside linebacker and co-captain Jason Gildon, the franchise's all-time sack leader with 77, that he won't be with the team this season. His job -- that of the critically important pass rusher on the left side of the defense -- has been handed to former backup Clark Haggans, who was given a $3 million signing bonus two months ago to remain with the team.
After unsuccessful attempts to trade Gildon, the Steelers will release him after June 1, saving the team his $3.65 million salary.
"It's part of the business, which I do understand," Gildon said, "but it is kind of disappointing. I've been here as long as I have, and I still wasn't given a lot of options."

here is another guy who can help make this a reality this year....I also agree at the right price this is a guy who can be very productive in limited duty....he would look very nice as an obvious passing situation de/olb who can rush the qb and also drop back in coverage.
whoever gets this guy will be pleased for a few years( at the right price of course- under $2 mil/yr)

I thought of him y'day (or was it day before) when I posted a piece from FoxSports.com on likely 1 June cuts. That piece included Allen, btw. Anyhoo, I don't think he would fit in, even with Steele and O'Neil little more than projects, at best. Our starters are set, Bradie is going to get his chance to shine, then there's Gildon's age and reduced productivity.
The front office should at least give him a look, though, have a word with his people and see if he'll come into a backup role for the right price. It's just a matter of not leaving any stone unturned, and if he can come in and contribute, our LB corps will be truly terrific. Ben-n-Austin (wherever he is) will have pups.

Sorry. To answer the question... yes. He'll last a little less than one week. An obvious contender (Philly and their like) will pick him up for an inflated wage packet.

I agree with you - and I think BP and company have shown in this whole QB merry-go-round, that they're not that interested in adding older players on the downside of their career. Can Gildon contribute - definitely. Would he be a solid contributor on a winning team over the next 5-6 years - no chance.

As long as his health isn't a issue, I would bring him in for right price. He could help contribute for 2 years or so.

Steelers linebacker arrested at Pittsburgh nightclub
March 17, 2003
SportsLine.com wire reports
PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Jason Gildon was arrested after refusing to leave a nightclub Saturday night.
Police said Gildon and two companions argued with a manager at Sanctuary, a club in the city's Strip District, when they weren't allowed inside because they didn't meet the dress code.
"Officers asked them three times to leave. Each time they refused," said police spokeswoman Tammy Ewin. "After they refused the third time, they were arrested."
The three were charged with disorderly conduct and defiant trespass, and all were released from the Allegheny County jail Sunday morning.
Gildon's agent, Peter J. Schaffer, and Steelers spokesman Ron Wahl declined comment Sunday night.
Gildon, 30, has been a starter since 1996. He is second on the team's career sacks list with 71.

Like that Vinnie has family ties and is leaning to retiring and may want to play close to home. that is relevant.

having Gildon in the d-line rotation could be of great benefit. I would be all for picking him up.

I agree with Sarge.....he would interfere with the growth of James and some of the other young linebackers......I do not think he will come cheap! :D

Gildon plays LB.
He would want to start.
He would want to much money.
He would steal snaps from our developing players.
3 strikes and your out!

Seems we are solid at LB. I don't see him as an overall improvement so I don't see investing in him. I would change my tune with a couple of injuries though. I just think we need shoring up elsewhere. He has worth just not to this team IMO.

I'll bet we don't even ask his agent for a price. Doesn't fit the plans.
