Mike Woicik, the Cowboys' once-and-present strength and conditioning coach, has been impacted more by the lockout than anyone else on staff.

The offseason is his season, the time to get the players ready for a 16-game grind. He's arguably the best in the business, collecting six Super Bowl rings with the Cowboys and Patriots since the 1990s.

Now he's back as one of Jason Garrett's new hires, but his weight room has been empty since the lockout started March 11.

I was more excited about this hire than any of them except Garrett. The lockout has blunted what I think could have been a huge impact by Woicik's training.

Yes definately a HUGE impact. A good strength coach, and he's regarded as one of if not the best in the league, is major to a football team.. Major!!!!

JJ was a very good Strength Coach. Woicik is better, but not worlds better as hoss and others claim.

The proof will be in the pudding. Why not just wait and see.

even this is a poor defense, when did the Strength and condition coach factored in for a SB run?

I agree with you on the fact, but these coaches dont make the difference of how far you've missed the SB by.

It will be interesting to see how teams try to balance their strength and conditioning programs with training camp.

Hopefully most players have been to a workout facility and are doing their time there. It can't replace the NFL facility but the work has to be done.

Umm, strength and conditioning don't matter in the game of football since when? Woicik is coach that focuses on making players' weaknesses strengths. I think he is the best choice for Garrett in installing Garrett's atmosphere here. No nonsense, no BS and all business.

that is poor even from you hoss. So why have the Pats not won a SB since 2004? He was there for the last 6 years and they did not win one? I guess he is slipping and that is why they let him go.

If you put his hire above Rob Ryan's then I would have to seriously question your football IQ.

Look at it this way, every team is behind in the weight room. A damn good strength /conditioning coach will give his team a leg up. And who's to say the players haven't been working out to a program he designed for them and just happened to get the particulars to them some way?

Red letter day.

Let's look at the Patriots record since 2004.

2005...10-6*, 1-1 in the postseason.
2006...12-4*, 2-1 in the postseason.
2007...16-0*, 2-1 in the post season, loss in the Super Bowl.
2008...11-5
2009...10-6*, 0-1 in the postseason.
2010...14-2*, 0-1 in the postseason.

* = AFC East Champ

By my calculations that is 6 straight years of double digit wins. That is 5 AFC East Division crowns and 5 trips to the postseason, missing only the year Brady went down and by some miracle 11-5 was not playoff worthy.

By my math that is 73-23 in the regular season. By my math that is a 76% winning percentage. By my math that is 5-5 in the post season with a trip to the Super Bowl.

Out of morbid but mild curiosity, what strength and conditioning coach who has lost it as you intimate gets those kinds of results?

In all sincerity, the Patriots are the perfect example of how hard it really is to win in the postseason in the NFL where it is 1 and done, and why Cowboys fans ought to relax a little bit about this drought. Sometimes the best teams lose in the postseason to other good teams. This is why Super Bowls are truly special. This is why our 5 Lombardi trophies matter even though the last one was the 1995 season.
