Under the new CBA ratified by NFL Owners, gameday rosters will expand this season from 45 to 46 players, with the No. 3 quarterback no longer counting as an inactive player according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Frankly, the whole idea of restricting game day rosters is stupid. If you're paying 53 active players on your roster, you should be able to play all 53 if you wish. Especially as players get bigger and faster and more prone to injury, you need as many bodies at your disposal as you can get.

I agree. It has never made since to me. You pay 53 player as members of your team why should they not be part of the team on game day?

It creates situations where key starters (fatigued, no less) have to contribute on special teams, putting them at injury risk and diluting the quality of the game. I've never understood the reasoning behind it.

and all teams have 53 man roster so no one is getting any extra advantage.

It would make injuries a larger part of the game if one team had the full 53 players uninjured and the other only had 48 available. They should increase it but I do agree with keeping some cushion for injured and developmental players.

A better system would give a 2 or 4 game disabled list like most other sports. The bottom of the roster would be filled with minimum salary guys so it would not change the player costs by a large amount. It would give more guys jobs and increase player safety by not having as many players play hurt, but the trade organization did not pursue it.

you could say the same with the 45 man game day roster. Every team is going to sustain injuries and teams will be forced to bring guys up from the PS because of injury.

So if teams carry only 2 QBs they actually get an extra roster spot.

Wow.

Gives teams an incentive to only carry 2 QBs.

I have always thought, and always will, that your entire 53 people should be available on game days. There is simply no valid reason to not have them all active on gameday.

I just hope we get to the point soon.

wish it had went to 48 at least.

all 53 would be fine but with injuries anything over 50 becomes somewhat trivial as a few guys would not play anyways.

but 45 guys is very tough with starters plus specialists accounted for.
