The players hate training camp and preseason games. Taking the weekend off is crazy and shows these lazy *** elite jerk offs don't want a deal.

yep guys, like i said, one player rep said loopholes, to find in cba

need more time, with lame excuses

and now they just said on nfl network lombardi talking-this looks like stall tactics:
you know it looks like players dont want training camp, but really there is no more training camp now, the way the new rules are set up (no 2 adays)

NCAA Football is where it's at,,,

I am getting real close to that now, if this jerking around by players keeps up, enough is enough

no more :banghead: as far as i am concerned let preseason games get lost, and owners will really get ticked off, and shut it down, and players will lose their big time pay checks, then let them hollar all they want, if players kept us waiting let them wait, and suffer like we have

when they start missing their big pay checks, and suffer, then to bad;

let them suffer, they asked for it, trying to push and use stall tactics to get all they can get

Lombardi's an idiot. How is a delay of a week a stall to end training camp?

The players are going to call the owner's Tuesday bluff and vote on Wednesday (my prediction).

wrong attitude if you want to call owners bluff;
they have billions can hold out more longer than the players, especially low class middle players

then you will see who has the true power, the owners

players had better wake up and smell the coffee, or their about to lose their cake

but fine players if you want to try to call what you think is a bluff, owners are getting ticked off too as well as the fans

you players think we will come back if no preseason games and 8 games in season, just try it and see what happens

mark my words, baseball really suffered on their strike once
players are really going to suffer if they keep this up, fans have had about enough

This is really stupid! They have been negotiating for about two months, agreeing to everything so far. The Lawyers spent last week working late, coming up with the deal on paper, agreeing on language.

And now the NFLPA doesn't know what is in the agreement? Did they not have their reps in the room when the draft was written? So they claim they don't have a copy of the agreement, they don't know what is in the agreement, the owners put in some extras in the agreement. Really? Where the heck were the Union lawyers.

This probably has to do with billable hours for the attorneys.Remember, De Smith gave up his salary as the Union head, but signed on as an attorney for the NFLPA. He is just making up his lost salary.

No one but then 4 months of work have to be done regarding contract, FA getting rookie signed and the longer the wait the longer it will be before teams will open training camp.

The players had a meeting last night. I thought for sure the deal would get done this weekend.

I read somewhere that Smith said he's not making a statement today out of respect for the Kraft family after the loss of Myra Kraft.

I don't understand all of this. The owners say that they negotiated all of this. The NFLPA say there are parts that were not discussed. What's the holdup?

The executive team did the negotating, but now it's about disseminating the info to the player reps and the remaining players.

Did people think they should just sign on the dotted line without reading it or understanding what was in it?

Well if they think like that, then the NFL is obviously dealing with a bunch of little children. This is how I lost my taste for the NBA. The players became less and less likable and the officiating became more and more arbitrary until pretty soon the whole thing wasn't appealing anymore...

The NFL and NFLPA put together a feasable settlement agreement. The NFL signed off on it primarily because of how the numbers worked out in their favor, IMO. I don't think they were as concerned about the non-revenue part of the agreement unlike the players.

Based on how things have played out, the NFLPA just began the process of giving out info to the players last night.

That said, I don't mind allowing either side to take the time necessary to understand the details. This agreement is expected to go 10 years. I'd hate to see a bunch of rhetoric 2 years from now about how it was "the worst deal in the history of sports."

I won't lie, I will be disappointed if the season is lost but at the end of the day it won't affect me.

I'll just fall back on college football. And if CBS slid some SEC games over to Sunday (doubt it happens) even better.

That said, the players won't allow the entire season to go down the tubes. There are far too many of them that will be hurting for money by November.

They are just posturing to buy a little more free time. Otherwise they'd be fully engaged in the process. Yesterday I thought I heard someone on the radio mention that about half the players left the meetings around noon. Assuming that is true, them leaving early doesn't quite strike me as a group that is fully committed to getting a deal done as soon as possible.

I can understand that. One of my lasting memories from the 2006 negotiations was the beleaguered look on Ralph Wilson's face as he muttered, "I don't understand what I just agreed to."

Those negotations were with each sides executive team and the points of interest were kept in secret until recently.

Maybe it's me, but I would think it takes a little longer to educate 1900 members than it does 32.

When theres new language in a deal couldnt the NFL and/or their lawyers take advantage of the players in some way? Its not like they havent tried to do that already.

New language isn't just inserted. Both legal teams worked on the terms and laguage of this agreement. The document is produced by both parties, together.

If the attorneys for the NFLPA weren't part of this, then they shouldn't be paid.

I have been part of negotiations, on both sides, and never have we gotten all the members across the country, a full completed copy of the agreement before proceeding. That's why you have representatives from the different chapters, who get the inofrmation, and then discuss it with the members of his chapters. In this case, the player reps should have been getting regular updates from the negotiating parties, and passing it along to the members.

So this notion that the player reps had no idea of what the agreement was all about it BS or the NFLPA head and the negotiators did a poor job of representing their members.

When theres new language in a deal couldnt the NFL and/or their lawyers take advantage of the players in some way? Its not like they havent tried to do that already.

Absolutely! This HAS happened in NFL negotiations before. I recall some crooked language put into a rookie contract after an agreement had been made, done by KC some years ago. There's no way you sign a 10 year contract without going over it extensively to make sure every word is in its exact, specified place.

However, it's a brilliant propaganda move by the owners. They put the ball in the players' court, and any delays become their blame. Given the short memories that abound, it will help to leave the last taint of delay as the players' fault.

Of course it is a lot easier to get 24 (or 31) people to agree to something than it is to get 1800 or so in agreement. Not to mention the possible hand grenades of the plaintiffs in the legal cases. Wouldn't be surprised if the weekend wasn't being worked to apply pressure there as well.

Exactly....

Fans have been very patient this year. Our offseason has been taken away. We've been told things have been close....then not close....then within a few days....then two weeks away.

Finally, we briefly got a view of the end yesterday. It just stands to reason why we'd be ticked. We see that all the players have to do is vote.

Yes, I know they need to look over the document (although, that's what they've been doing for months). I know a deal WILL be done.

Right now, it seems as if the owners, with a timeline that can preserve the preseason, really care to end this. The players, that have the it'll get done when we darn feel like it attitude, seem to not care when this ends.

So, there's a reason why folks are overreacting a bit....me included. We've just been strung along, only to have the rug pulled out from under us.

I find it odd that the NFLPA is having a meeting on Monday. Why not on Saturday or Sunday? Weekends mean nothing when you've been off for seven months, it's just another day.

I'm sure the CBA is a large complicated document, but it shouldn't take a week to read it.

I think the players are pouting because there was not a joint press conference.

non-elite players made out very well. they got 55k raises to the base, that is more than 10% at the low end. i am with you in being happy for them. getting tackled by a 250 pound guy running a 4.5 40 hurts no matter if you are a star or a practice squadder.

That combined with the raise in the salary floor were the things I proposed were needed and hadn't been focused on as they planned for litigation.

The only thing I ever had against the players was litigation. I had the same thing against the owners. I never celebrated when they won their appeal. I knew it meant this would drag on. I wanted a quick deal in March.

At least I never claimed they could reach agreement in one hour. I knew this was a long haul. But it's time to end it. We've been screwed enough.
