Can someone educate me on this phenomenon that has taken over the world? I get it that it is a social networking thing where people can get updates on what other people are doing... I just dont get how it works or how it is done. Any help for this old timer is appreciated.

I use it to follow all my sports teams, sports writers, news events, and other various interest groups. It's a good way to keep up with the latest news on things you are interested in.

Its the most valuable news source in the world at the moment probably. Especially for sports news. It is amazing during drafts, free agency and the lockout it was great.
You can follow reporters, journalists, insiders, players, team execs and even websites that have twitters and have a flow of information at your fingertips.
Its great, I cant go 5 minutes without checking it during big sports times like this week. Otherwise, not that often. They have information on there before SportsCenter, text alerts, NFL.com and everywhere else. Pretty useful once you get used to it.

My battery's dead. I know it'll take .5 seconds to Google what I should do, but can someone please tell me how to change it? Thanks.

from the Twitter FAQ:
Getting to know Twitter
What is it?
Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent messages. People write short updates, often called "Tweets" of 140 characters or fewer. These messages are posted to your profile or your blog (http://support.twitter.com/articles/15354-about-twitter-widgets), sent to your followers (http://support.twitter.com/articles/14019-what-is-following), and are searchable on Twitter search.
What does it mean to follow someone on Twitter?
Following (http://support.twitter.com/articles/14019-what-is-following) someone simply means receiving their Twitter updates. When you follow someone, every time they post a new message, it will appear on your Twitter home page. New messages are added to your home page as people post them, so you always get the updates in real time. When you log in, you can see what the latest updates are. Twitter offers other ways to follow people too: you can get updates from certain people on your phone (http://support.twitter.com/articles/14589-how-to-add-your-phone-via-sms)!

I'm thinking Google+ is going to end both Facebook and Twitter. It is basically capable of doing both jobs.

I don't use mine much either, at least not yet considering I only have 7 "friends" on it. And that includes people like Stewie from the Family Guy and Borat.

I signed up for one because my friend offered it to me, but I've never used it, either.

Depends on the phone, but there should be an app for it. Download the app, create an account and start following people that interest you.

I can't stand Twitter because people have the need to tell me everywhere they are and what they are doing.
Bob: At McDonalds ordering a Big Mac lol!
What the hell?
Stupid facebook is starting to do the same thing. Those idiot check-in apps. (foursquare or something) Why would anyone care that you are at 7/11?
