With Roy Williams and Sam Hurd gone to Chicago, there is void at third receiver behind Miles Austin and Dez Bryant.

Kevin Ogletree is hoping to fill that role.

"It's an opportunity, " Ogletree said. "That goes without saying. I have chance to help the team. Im anxious to do that."

"Last year was disappointing for a lot of reasons," Ogletree said. "I would have liked to have contributed a little more. I didn't do things as well as I could have early on. Then I got hurt."

Color me unimpressed until Mr. Thang gets his mind right and loses the entitlement attitude.

He hasn't earned it. Yet, anyway.

I assume that a vet WR will be brought in to compete, but who knows?

Wait till Dez misses his first game, which will probably be our first game. Ogletree will be your starter.

This is going to be a long year if we don't make some moves soon.

I think he's ready to take that step and be a significant contributor.

I think he's ready to take that step and be a significant contributor.

Why? I mean, what is there about him now that suggests this?

I don't mean to be a jerk because I would love for this to be true, but I just don't see any foundation for believing this at the moment.

well now he's gonna have to try and do this without a WR coach.

That is great but can he be a #3WR?

I'd rather not gamble only to find the answer is no. Sign someone.

Exactly. HE couldn't even earn the No. 4 WR spot last year, so why would we view him as a No. 3 this year?

I cant believe the Garrett/Jones really think Ogletree is ready to essentially be a starter as the 3rd WR. The guy literally has made 3-4 plays in 2 years and been a no-show outside of that. They must sign a better WR.

Nothing Garrett has done indicates he thinks Ogletree is ready to be the No. 3. I think it's more just some fans who aren't really being realistic.

he definitely has the speed and the tools to be a very good receiver in the NFL(it took Miles some time to figure it out too).hope the new coach turns out to be the spark needed to bring the best out of him.

I dont get all the hate on this kid. I hope he surprises everyone. KG is giving him a chance. I hope he takes control if he does its a win for everyone

This applies to a lot of receivers - his speed is good, but not jaw dropping - like a lot of players. There has to be something more to be a quality NFL receiver.

Yes Austin took some time, but it's not as if Austin's path is the common one. Ogletree's situation is his own, and is not dictated by Miles Austin's success in becoming a high quality receiver anymore than it is by Sam Hurd's failure to do the same.

That said, Ogletree will get a chance to improve his status this year, and I hope he can do that. If he doesn't his days are probably numbered.

Randall Williams had the speed and he still hasn't figured out how to play that position.

Seven little bitty WR screens hasn't demonstrated Otree is anything more than what Hurd gave us for all those years.

I agree, but only time will tell. We haven't seen much of him, but he has certainly passed my eye test. Love his speed, and sometimes he looks like a RB after the catch. Looks like this year will present a great opportunity. We haven't heard anything about a veteran WR signing and a rookie like Harris will likely take a while to start "getting" things at the Pro level.

Actually I was being facetious. But he has the talent. I just don't know if he has 'it'. I wish for a vet who can play the slot. I don't follow the FAs well enough to know who is out there. Who?

I think he's better than Dwayne Harris but still, both of them are better served as #4 WRs right now. I'd like to see us get a veteran who can help mentor these young guys (including Dez and Miles) as well as contribute on the field, like Chris Chambers or Brandon Stokley

At least it sounded like he had a great practice yesterday. Good for him.

I'm pulling for Harris, but with the holdout I wouldn't expect much early on. Plus, it's hard to expect much from an unproven 6th rounder anyway.

We'll make a move for a servicable vet.

Mine to. He certainly looked the part at times in the 2009 preseason and regular season. Not just talking speed and quickness, which he has plenty of. He's got nice feet, nice hands and excellent body control. Absolutley looked like a skilled professional WR to me.

I can't even begin to explain 2010 and won't argue with the doubters.

I just get the feeling if he stays healthy, he'll do real well for us in the 3rd WR role.

I knew you were - that's how I took your post. I know big dog was replying to you, but my comment was meant simply to agree with him and not intended to look like I was commenting on your post.

I agree Ogletree has some talent - although I'm not sure the level is as great as many think. I'm not sure it isn't either, I merely saying I think there just isn't that much evidence to go by.

I'm like you, I would like us to get a veteran to play the slot, and like you I don't follow the FA's enough to know who's out there. I don't think it has to be a big splash guy, just a solid, reliable guy who is proven as a No. 3, or maybe even a former starter who is aging but can still play. Mike Jenkins sounds pretty good - I know he's available.

I think Ogletree is going to win the job and do well. I think he has been ready for this for a while. I think he just got discouraged by the events of last year. I mean, he wasn't going to be playing over the guys ahead of him no matter what...and when he finally got a chance, he got injured.

From everything I've read both this offseason and last year, Ogletree's biggest problem was his attitude.

He's at the very least acknowledged it and looks prepared to make corrections and step up.

The coaches have obviously seen something in him to keep investing time in him.

Hos brought up the idea of Steve Smith. I love this idea as long as he's recovering properly from microfracture surgery. I know he's a FA but I wonder if he's truly available or are the Giants just waiting on news to resign him.

I'm not sure they have really invested that much time in him. Somebody had to be the No. 5 WR last year, and somebody does this year. I suspect they like something about him, but for now it just seems they are giving him a chance to compete for a roster spot.

It would take fans (myself included) getting over thinking of him as a Giant, but a guy like Smith would be a good fit.
