View Full Version : Do you want the Fan Zone and Daily Zone forums combined?
Reality

We would like to know if you want the Fan Zone and Daily Zone combined into one forum? The new forum would be called the Fan Zone.
Keep in mind that we have relaxed our thread moving policies to the Daily Zone somewhat due to the mad rush of news related threads since the lockout ended.
Our normal policy would be to move those kinds of threads to the Daily Zone almost immediately which means the Fan Zone would be primarily for only fan created discussions and the Daily Zone for snippets and summaries of articles, recaps, tweets, etc. from other news sources.

agreed.
I like that the news is separate from the conversational threads. Sometimes there are so many silly threads (like yesterday) going that threads with substance drop off.
If I've been away from the forum for a while, I know where to go to catch up on Cowboys' news....the Daily Zone. And then I don't have to wade through fodder for the substance.

I never look at the daily zone, if it was in the fan zone the topics I probably would.
Or atleast rename it, daily zone sounds stupid, passible, probably gets much less views than Fan Zone, im confident it does. Call it Hot News zone, or Daily News zone atleast, something along those lines.

I think it's unfortunate that the actual legit NEWS sources are not kept seperate from the
FanBlog
BeatBlog
TweetBlogs
If hope that the legit national stuff can keep being seperate from the tweets and mundane blog content.
I enjoy going to the Daily Zone to see actual articles from Peter King and Mosley and CBSSPORTS/FOXSPORTS writers etc.
The little fan stuff I feel, is fine in the Fan Zone. Hence the name, I thought.
Coordinated organization is a GOOD thing btw. You know where to go for legit articles and you know where to go for discussion and blog info and tweet info.

Keep it like it is. News and articles in one place, fan discussions (and whining and moaning) in another.

Imagine the number of valid news articles that would get lost in the mess of complaint threads when Red doesn't run/pass enough?

I understand/know the reasoning behind the snippits rule but it is frustrating when somebody starts a thread and there is only a link in the OP. They should have to put at least a sentence or two snippit, in the OP, relating to the thread topic.

The mods do but not everyone does that.
For example one of the threads on the front page:

(not using this to single anyone out, just using it as an example)

Not really, it could just be a thread that the other discussions about Namndi get merged in to. It's pretty much how it functions now anyway. Just use the news item / headline post to be the first post and news follows it. As it stands, this pretty much happens anyway, I never visit the daily zone and I'm sure others don't either.
It's a little redundant if you ask me, since news items do get posted to the fan zone and discussions take place because of them.
I think if anything, there needs to be a twitter zone. Not every single tweet deserves its own thread.

Definitely combine them. I'm usually in a hurry to see what's going on in Cowboysland and find it frustrating to have to search 2 forums for what interests me. I've been here a long time but have been mostly frequenting another forum because of the ease of which they provide me information.
Just my two cents.

I like not having to wade through a ton of BS and smilies to get my news fix from time to time. If the two are combined, there will be a TON of good, newsworthy information that will be pushed back by the more popular threads with people *****ing back and forth at one another. No thanks.
It's nice the way it is. Having an area that is relatively free of agenda and hyperbole is a great asset to this forum. IMO, if they're combined, you lose that.

I like them seperate. During the season (and any time there's lots going on, such as Draft, FA, etc.), it's tough enough to keep up with the threads in the Fan Zone, as it is. Adding in all the articles from the Daily Zone would make it even more difficult to keep up with. Thanks.

Really kind of split on this. I like the idea of seeing all threads in one place. to be able to read all the latest articles as I go down the list of threads.
But I voted no, as it is very nice to just go and be able to read the articles without sifting through all the user created discussions and threads and tweets.
Especially on gameday articles and reviews. Actually can a forum be added that lists links to highlight videos if anyone posts them. just a thought, if there are enough to list.

I agree some of the twitter threads are worthless and probably don't even need to be posted. But at the same time you need to accept that twitter is how news is broken these days. So to say nothing from twitter can be posted in the fan zone would be a huge mistake. Random meaningless posts from players? Sure, but legit news from twitter has its place.

Pretty sure if you following the right people like Schefter, Mort, and Glazer you can be confident its not "gossip" and frankly where do you think the free agent signings were broken? Has nothing to do with "style" it has everything to do with convenience if you don't understand it or appreciate it that's your decision. But its not going away.

Yes because there is never any false information in any other information medium? And when was that posted as fact? Do you understand what speculation is? Or do you believe everything you read online?
Guarentee you find out news faster on Twitter when something happens than you will on TV or any website.

My point was that basically, because of the ease and quickness with which you can post things to twitter, the garbage to fact ratio is much much higher. So while you may get it quicker, you may also be getting a load of bull quicker.

I almost never visit the daily zone, and just a quick glance there this morning shows that most threads there don't get much discussion, in fact the entire daily zone seems to always have only a relatively few number of people viewing it at any time compared to the fan zone.
I disagree that important topics would be pushed of the first page. ANY "active" topic will maintain it's front page status till something more important to the fans arrives to move it down the line... as it should be. And I expect that most people don't simply view the first page of a forum, but click through at least the first several several pages.
I say combine the two. Let the most active topics compete for front page status. Survival of the fittest, so to speak.

That would not be the case if the forums are merged .. we tend to use the Daily Zone as a sticky holder because that forum is underused right now. It has more sticky threads than normal because I moved most out so this poll would get more attention.

So often the same articles get posted in both places anyway.
Have the FAN FORUM for all articles and opinions.
Maybe replace the DAILY FORUM with something new and creative...maybe the SOCIAL NETWORK FORUM where someone who follows all the twitter accounts, etc. can post that stuff, maybe even with links to certain pages to make it easier for fans to follow. Or maybe the BEAT WRITERS FORUM or maybe a PRE-POST GAME FORUM where people can post anything they want about the next game or the current game...and not limit fans to putting all their game posts in one thread. I understand the reason for that when it's part of the FAN FORUM, but it's sort of annoying when the thread gets so many pages long. I actually like seeing lots of threads with different titles so I can choose some to respond to without scouring 10 pages, and because it would be replaced each week, say every Wednesday, it really wouldn't matter if there were what some refer to as duplicate threads. It would let everyone have their fun leading up to game day and during the game and for a day or two afterwards...the format might actually help some of us move on after a tough one the way the players do.
Just an idea.
