View Full Version : Here's a laugh... Martz on Roy

Offensive coordinator Mike Martz is predicting 70 or 80 receptions for Roy Williams.

"He's an elite player," said Martz. We're not sure what Martz is going to do with four legit No. 1 receivers, which is what he claims to have in Chicago. His incessant hype makes Jon Gruden sound like Debbie Downer. The takeaway here is that Williams is slotted for a major offensive role, which will likely cut into the production of Johnny Knox, Earl Bennett, and Devin Hester. We still have Knox ranked the highest of the four.

He's a good signing for the Bears, wouldn't be shocked to see him do well there.

I wish the best for Roy. It sounds if Martz is willing to get the ball in RW hand it is up to RW to take advantage of it.

I suppose when you have 4 #3 WRs each interchangably playing all WR spots you can technically say you have 4 #1 WRs.

Thank GAWD Martz never became our OC here in Dallas. The Greatest FRAUD on Turf can stay in Chicago where it belongs.

Williams will likely do pretty well in Chicago with Martz. Martz's receiving scheme, at least as it was in St. Louis, didn't focus on its WR having to run precise routes. I remember him saying in a program that his scheme allowed for his WRs to round off routes and involved a lot of crossing-patterns. This suites Williams, as he was never one to really be able to break down his effectively. It was like he was running with two big clown feet out there.

the irony of all this is that it was Chicago's strip of Roy Williams that kinda set the tone for the first half of that season, and all but sealed his demise this off-season

Four #1 receivers?!? Oh my lord.... talk about drinking the kool-aid!

70 receptions wouldn't surprise me. He's certainly not an elite player as Martz claims but Roy is a decent WR, maybe slightly better under Martz. Roy right now is arguably the best option they have as a pass-catcher. In Dallas he was 4th. As a #1 option with a QB like Cutler, he could easily get 70 rec 1000 yds.

I think Roy will do well. Still trying to make Devin Hester a receiver I see.

That's one sad looking offensive huddle, Cutler, Barber, Roy and that revolving door they call an O-line. I bet Olsen was glad he got out of that huddle. :laugh2:

i bet he has his second 1000 yard season this year. i bet he also teaches hester to run a great slant and we see a couple 40+ yard TDs from him this year

If a WR had 1300 yards and 7 TDs in his only fully healthy season in your system, you'd call him an elite playmaker too.

The fact Roy failed here doesn't mean he can't still succeed in a system he's already excelled in. You guys should stop fooling yourselves.

I agree. Fits exactly what they needed. Big body, RZ target. Familiar with the offense and WR coach.

He's their #1 receiver so he'll definitely put up numbers. Not efficiently though.

I agree. Roy Williams is certainly not elite, but he did make the pro-bowl while playing in Martz's scheme

I may even consider drafting Roy Williams on my fantasy team. I think he could be a legitimate # 3 WR on a fantasy team.

Expect better numbers from Bennett or Knox.

Roy will surprise a lot of people this year with his play. Wish we would have kept him another year.

Think about what Martz does.....he passes the ball all over the field.

He got rid of Greg Olsen, one of the best young TE's in the game so he could run more three and four WR sets.

Chicago is going to be chucking the ball around the field.

He'll probably still drop it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Cutler force feeding Roy the ball. Cutler plays as if he doesn't care about making mistakes.

I'd draft Roy in fantasy too.

Good idea on drafting him late as a fantasy sleeper. I think he will do well also.

But is Roy the best blocker of the 4?
