SAN ANTONIO -- Josh Thomas (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/14162/josh-thomas) quickly learned just how fast things can change in the NFL during Monday’s practice.

When cornerback Mike Jenkins (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/11259/mike-jenkins) went down with a stinger, Thomas, a rookie fifth-round pick, moved into the first-team nickel defense with Terence Newman (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/4463/terence-newman) and Orlando Scandrick (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/11366/orlando-scandrick) with Alan Ball (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/10680/alan-ball) and Bryan McCann (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/_/id/13609/bryan-mccann) unable to practice.

“It’s surreal because I always imagined the possibility teaming with Terence Newman but it’s actually come true,” Thomas said. “It’s a privilege and a blessing now being on the field and running first team. Terence was telling me, ‘Come on, JT, you got it. Good job.’ That in itself is a blessing and an eye opener.”

That would be so cool. He probably looked up to TNew when he was 11-12 years old. Now he's playing with him. Love that stuff.

He may have to send TNew a Father's Day card. :D

Sounds like he's really struggling right now in camp according to Broaddus

I don't think Josh Thomas will make the team.

On what basis? He hasn't played in a single pre-season game, and in practices he's generally looked quite good.

I'm pulling for him! He's from Dallas and grew up a Cowboys fan. His family was so excited when he got the call that he was drafted.

I haven't heard that he looks that great. In general it's hard for late round CBs to make the roster, they're not great at ST due to not being great tacklers, and there's a lot of competition at the position. I also would be surprised to see him make the roster. The top 3 are set and we'll probably carry 5 safeties, so unless he can be better than Alan Ball or a great ST player, it would be a surprise to see him make the roster.
