View Full Version : PFT: Eagles made post-retirement offer to Moss

The folks at the Boston Herald have provided the football-following world a couple of new tidbits regarding recently-retired receiver Randy Moss.
One is very interesting. The other one, frankly, isn’t.
First, Karen Guregian of the Herald reports that the Eagles made an offer to Moss following his retirement. That’s a big one, since we’re convinced the Eagles are one of the few teams for which Moss would play. Without knowing the amount of the offer or the Eagles’ plans for Moss, it’s hard to know whether he’d be interested.
Second, Ian Rapoport of the Herald reports that Moss has filed his retirement papers. “His career is over,” Rapoport writes.

Getting sick of hearing about them, seems theyre in on EVERY FREAKING DEAL.
I wouldnt be surprised if those bastids snatched Elam from us.

There is a reason the Eagles are buying FA's. They are so far under the CAP they have to spend the money or give it to the League.

The current Eagles remind me of the 1994 San Francisco 49'ers.
Unfortunately, their tricks did enable the Niners to steal a Super Bowl.
I can only hope the same doesn't happen again.

I'm not sure the cap floor is kicked in this year and they also have 3 years to hit it. If that was really the reason they would more likely use the money on locking up their young stars to new contracts.

If the Eagles want to buy a championship then I've got an empty trophycase to sell them. Frankly put, paper champs don't impress me.
This board has become obssessed with the Eagles. It's embarrassing.
Our team will have a much greater say in their own fate than the Eagles. The two weeks when we play each other, they'll both have a say.

They certainly wouldn't be taking such a hard stance with DeSean Jackson.

I don't think filling out the retirement papers is a big deal, especially since he is a free agent. I am pretty sure if he decides to unretire it is no big deal.

Where are they getting all of this money from?
Where is Adam? What were the Eagles' cap numbers before they started signing all these guys? And trying to sign all these guys?
PS -- this isn't going to bode well with Jackson.

I can't believe how the Eagles turned the tide so quick.
2009 it looked like the NFC East was ours for many years to come and we couldn't even hold that spot for a year before the Eagles bounced back and took back the division.
They are just a quality organization.

Even though we are starting to sound paranoid concerning the Eagles they are at least trying to sign new players. The fact that they haven't thrown money around arbitrarily over the years gives them the room to sign FA's. I'm really kinda tired of hearing about them in the end. Be that as it may it seems they are getting desperate to win now and signing anyone with a name. Maybe they know Vic only has a couple of years to win it for them, or maybe Reid is about ready to go. Either way it will be interesting to see how they fare this year. I still hate them.
it's kinda funny, you'd think there would be some lessons from the Miami Heat's spectacular failure doing the same thing, but apparently that's not the case

Really....the Eagles got lucky with Vick.
If they didnt have them...we probably still see McFlabb out there.
Yes it was a shewed move to pick up Vick....and Vick was lucky to go to a Qb friendly system like that.
But who knew the Vick you would get....
But lets see how it plays out this year......always thought the Eagles were a gimmick offense....never really beat you man to man....they try to out match you in certain situations.....trick you.
Last year....it seemed there were alot of big plays...I dont know if they can duplicate that again this year.
Also they been very fortunate to have two of the top running Qb's (QB's that get out of trouble with their feet) this league has seen.

Agree with that, but still, getting to the finals in your first year together cannot be viewed as a failure. They're set up fine to win a few championships in the next few years.

It NEVER gets old.
:lmao2:
The Eagles do have a good organization. They do have a history of stiffing players when it comes time to renew deals. It hasn't really bit them in the butt though. Gotta be frustrating for their own guys to constantly have to kick and fight for every penny and then watch them open up the checkbook to outside free agents.
The Eagles started the process like 40m under. They have let a lot of their big money players go....McNabb, Westbrook, Tra Thomas, etc over the past couple of years.
It is nice for them that they haven't truly taken a tumble but until they win a couple Super Bowls it's hard to say it is the best plan of action. They remain good year in and year out but never great.

That's all good to say,
but it is concerning or alarming that the Eagles have been the only NFC East player in "Free Agency" this summer and are seemingly just throwing contracts around like candy..
I'm sure New York and Washington fans have similar sentiments.

I really doubt he comes back. Just looking at him last year he just doesn't seem to care anymore and as far as athletically he's clearly not the same player.
You've really gotta hand it to Philly. It pains me to say it, but they've really kicked butt this off-season. I visit the Philly board every so often, so I kinda keep up with their moves. Frankly, if our FO had pulled off moves like this, I think we'd all be doing back-flips and high-fiving, but cos it's Philly, we're being critical.
Look at their coaching upgrades alone.
Jim Washburn: About as old school as they come. Widely considered the best DL coach in the league. Has a tremendous record with players over a long period of time. Everybody saw what he did with Haynesworth, Kearse, Van den Bosch and most recently with Jason Babin (followed Washburn back to Philly). He turned them into pro-bowlers in their time in Tenn. and allowed them to get big deals with other teams -- only to under-perform without him. He's turned UDFA and mid to late round draft picks into solid starters.
Howard Mudd: John Madden called him the best OL coach he's ever seen. He's best friends with Washburn (NFL Films did a piece on them) and he's just as old-school. He's had a tremendous track-record with mid to late draft picks and UDFAs as well. Ask Jeff Saturday. He credits Mudd for making him the player he is. He retired after the Colts lost to the Saints in the Super Bowl, but came back this year to get the chance to work with his buddy, Jim Washburn. He's so old-school, he even phone-called Peyton Manning and Jeff Saturday to check if it was okay that he joined another team.
Juan Castillo: Biggest question mark of the off-season. He's only ever coached OL at the professional level, but he claims to have worked alongside Jim Johnson for many years while he was the DC in Philly. Who knows how he'll go at DC, but apparently he was considered for the position a few years back when JJ passed away. I remember seeing another NFL films thing on him, you can't help but root for the guy. One of the hardest working, and kind people you'll find in the league. But can he make adjustments on gameday? Remains to be seen.
Personnel Moves:
Nnamdi: Eagles needed a RCB. They got the best RCB in the league. He gave up 13 passes last year on 31 attempts for 0 touchdowns (14 games). Nothing to sneeze at. Earning only 10 mill in 2011. Bargain for a corner of his caliber.
DRC: Most athletically gifted CB in the league. 6'2 with 4.2 speed. Catches the ball like a WR. Had a down year playing on a poor defense, but should improve with a better pass-rush. He'll be tested a lot more playing opposite Nnamdi. Could get burned, could be stud. Remains to be seen. Still on his rookie deal, earning about 1.1 mill this year, bargain.
Babin: Career journeyman. Made a name for himself playing under Jim Washburn in his wide-9. Not sure if he'll get 12.5 sacks again, but Philly is his best shot at doing it. He's back under Washburn, he'll have Cullen Jenkins next to him and Trent Cole on the opposite side. 5 mill a year for a pass-rusher, fair price.
Cullen Jenkins: Essentially on a 1 year, 4 million dollar deal. He'll play the 3 technique and just rush the passer. Has had an injury history, but when healthy is a very good player. 4 mill for Jenkins is the bargain of the off-season.
Ryan Harris: Made Peter King's All-Pro team in 2008. Solid player, when healthy. But as with Jenkins, has trouble staying healthy. 1 year deal, bargain.
Ronnie Brown: Solid player who took less money and a 1 year deal to come to Philly. If Shady goes down, he's a capable back-up. I'm sure fat Andy has some wildcat plays in mind. 1 year, very very cheap deal. Great move.
Vince Young: Gifted athlete, but lazy and immature. He can win you some games, but if Vick goes down for the season, then he's not going to win a super bowl. He's fine for a 2 or 3 game stretch though, should anything happen to Vick. 1 year deal.
As you can see, the Eagles aren't mortgaging their future with huge contracts. They're all reasonably priced and/or short deal. They've given up no additional draft picks either. Heck, they've already added a 2, 4 and two 6s. I'm a football fan first and foremost. So I can take off the silver and blue glasses and appreciate what the Eagles FO has done this off-season. 2 years worth of FAs hit the market at once, and they pounced. They aren't buying a championship, they built through the draft and had a team good enough to make the playoffs last year. They know when to let go of underachieving veterans, like McNabb and Westbrook and Dawkins etc, that's how they have so much cap-room. And they're NOTHING like the Miami heat who added 2 superstars to a team that consists of 5 starters. They added 1 superstar (Nnamdi) and a few other 2nd and 3rd tier guys to a 53-man team that was already stacked with talent.
That's about enough Eagles love for a day...in fact maybe a lifetime. I just wanted to get that off my chest. I wouldn't dare post that on the Eagles board...their heads would swell with ego,
