If it came down to it, I'd take points over longer kickoffs.

I think they keep both so it doesn't matter but there is absolutely no way this team can let Buehler kick, given his recent performance.

If they 'can't count on Montrae Holland', how does it 'make sense' to keep him here and not sign another veteran guard?

I can't just automatically think it's a bad move. If I'm running the team and I see our 4th round draft pick out there really playing well and improving every day, then I too wouldn't want to add another veteran. I'd be in the mindset that between Holland and Arkin, we'll be alright this year.

If I told you in April that the Cowboys will use a mid round pick on a G who will be in the mix to start his first year I'd be showered with confetti. But now it's like a funeral.

According to today's report, it didn't sound like Arkin had a great day on the left side. The team doesn't want two rookies together on the right side (which I agree with) so now they're flipping Kosier over.

But even for the sake of argument, and Arkin can handle himself, what happens if Kosier gets hurt?

Given his recent history, there's at least a decent chance he could miss some time.

If Montrae Holland can't be counted on to complete a week of practice, how can you possibly count on him when the games count?

I was hoping McCann would build on last year he was so much faster then I realized after watching him play last year and he just seemed to have a knack for the ball. I think Ball will be cut I think the young guys are stepping up and starting to take the bull by the horn but the real test for these guys is the next few preseason games.

If Kai Forbath gets healthy in time to compete I think he wins the FG job. I agree they probably keep Buehler for KO's and I'm okay with that.

If Forbath can't compete this year I hope they put him on IR rather than cut him. He's pretty good.

I went to the "scrimmage yesterday and watched both kickers closely even in the practice portion. Neither of them had a good day. Buehler was Buehler; Bailey was less impressive than I imagined. One thing I can say for Buehler is that the ball explodes off his foot. It sounds solid and comes off his foot quickly. Bailey, not even close. It's like one guy is using a driver and one is using a wedge. Too bad the guy with the driver slices 1 out of every 4 tries.
I'd strongly consider keeping Buehler for kick offs. Based on what I saw yesterday, I'd bet Buehler's kickoffs will be at least 10 yards longer most of the time. Bailey's kicks just look like lazy fly balls.

In other kicking news, the camp-body punter shanked two punts in a row. Both of them were so pathetic that after the second one, I really wondered if they were working on covering terrible punts. After his third punt I just accepted he has no chance. I can punt as well as he can. (I can punt a ball 40-50 yards with about half the hang time of real kickers. I can also kick 45 yard field goals, but not consistently. I'm alright from 35 yards and in - I mention this because if I had known they would take just anybody, I would have taken off work for a few weeks and headed down to San Antonio and kicked balls until my leg fell off....and I would have done it for free)

The punter is out there to keep McBriar from being overused.

Whoever made the thread talking about moving Kosier to RG and Arkin to LG was right :)

Great TYS opportunity there.

We need a told ya so gif or thread icon. Got a feeling it's gonna be a recurring theme this year.

Well, it looks like Dallas is waiting for the regular season to see if they can "count on" Holland.

They may be looking at the waiver wire and roster cuts to 53... OR Jerry is so bargain hunting now, waiting until week one to pick up a vet and cut Holland , so that vets salary is not guranteed . ( Holland wil be still paid , go figure :( )

This is yet another reason why I think we may have the dumbest fans of any NFL team.

I think Arkin will do fine at LG with more practice...I'd expect him to struggle at first, but I believe he will be fine once he gets more reps at that position.

The guys on this site are great, but working at a sports store, you should hear some of the idiotic things my fellow Boys' fans say.

LOL oh my I have to agree. Also if we have high hopes for one of our own we are not "REALISTS" we are delusional. Man I just love our fan base! :bang2:

Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas):
Kitna out to Bennett for 15. ... Smith and Kosier -- again at right guard -- handle Spencer/Spears. Spencer slipped through on stunt next rep.

This is the only mention of Spencer from the entire practice report. I know its only one practice report but, my impression is that Spencer's name has not been mentioned very often in these practice summaries. For a person who plays an impact position, he isn't making much of an impression on these practice reporters.

I hope we see a lot of Victor Butler the kid makes plays I wouldn't be upset at all if we saw Ware and Butler on the field rushing the QB. I just don't get what's up with Spencer.

I have been reading alot of you are down on Spencer and his production in training camp.

Man, every day I keep watching to see if he would do anything special. Nothing not a thing, and he is one of my favorite players on the team.

I am about ready to put Butler in his place because every practice I have seen Victor make big time plays.

If we are truely going to start our most productive players....then please tell me how Spencer starts ahead of Butler thus far?

I hope Jason is more willing to yank vets for young guys then Wade was.

I feel like Butler has played 5 plays of defense and has 4 sacks and 4 ff's. lol.

Everytime he gets on the field it seems he makes a good play.

I don't see the harm in rotating him in more often.

Well garrett stuck with washed out mb3 when it was plain to see he was done but I am encouraged by the arkin situation.

Me too, but would Garrett have had the balls to do it BEFORE Holland got hurt? That is the question.

I don't think it was Wade's call to keep Barber in. As the OC, you can only call certain running/passing plays with Barber in. You would think Garrett had control over that and for whatever reason (be it Jerry insisting, wade, or just his call) Barber stayed in and played even when we knew we had more effective options waiting on the sideline.

I am excited about Garrett, I think he will do great. I am not convinced he will play younger guys yet, until I see it.
