For the second straight year, wide receiver Titus Ryan has been placed on the waived/injured list following the first preseason game.
Ryan has been out for the last 10 days with a sprained foot and the Cowboys decided to use his roster spot by placing him on waivers where he will likely receive an injury settlement.
The Cowboys have signed wide receiver Curtis Clay, a speedster from TCU. Like Ryan, Clay (6-0, 193) has some punt return ability. In four years, he did have just 34 catches, including three touchdowns...

Clay will look to battle for playing time at the bottom of the receiver depth chart with the likes of James Cleveland, Tysson Poots, Manny Johnson, Teddy Williams and Jesse Holley.
It sounds like Eatman has a lower opinion of Holley than a lot of folks do. Personally, I think Holley is so athletically limited that his contributions will come solely from special teams. And I would rather keep someone who can contribute as a receiver rather than solely on special teams

I agree, watching Holley in training camp, he just does not show the "it" factor at the WR spot.

Well said stasheroo. I would rather keep someone like Radway who has a higher ceiling. We've seen what Holley has and he's not likely to get significantly better. Radway is raw as far as route running goes but we have to keep in mind that there were no OTAs this year for the rookies to get familiar with the system all he and the other rookies have had is the two weeks of training camp with the team.

Actually, most folks are down on Holley and have him being cut this year. Obviously, it's time for him to go, somebody else will step up and contribute equal or more than what he did on ST. I like Radway's potential and even the other guy Poots looks like a player as well.

I have no affinity for Holley, but I feel sort of the opposite regarding what I want my 5th to be. A no. 5 receiver rarely ever will see the field in the regular offense. That being the case, I much rather have him contribute by being a strong special teams performer. Otherwise, he's really just taking up a roster spot.
Sam Hurd was limited as a reciever. However, he was smart, knew all the receiver position and was a strong and willing special teams performer. Every team needs a Sam Hurd type on their squad.

The difference between Sam Hurd and Jesse Holley is the fact that Sam Hurd was a capable WR if something happened to the starters, Holley doesn't possess any ability to step in and play WR. Holley's contributions on ST's can be replaced, the guy doesn't have any upside to contribute to the team other than punt coverage, he's been here long enough, and it's time for some new young blood.

You're overstating Hurd's ability as receiver a bit. Hurd was limited athlettically and demonstrated questionable hands during the course of his career in games. What made him a "capable" receiver, was the fact he knew all the different receiver positions, so he could at least be trusted to run the right routes, et cetera. I don't know if Holley is at that point yet, but I don't see him being much different than Hurd as a receiver, at least in terms of overall ceiling.

Uh, what else would Holley be fighting for but the bottom of the wr depth chart?
I don't think he has a lower opinion, he's just telling the truth. With Dez, Miles, Ogletree and Harris already taking 4 WR slots, there are only 1 or 2 left for everyone else to fight for.

Right. Holley is a ST player only, basically. Shows a "quick" flash at the WR position, sometimes. I see Raymond Radway taking his position at WR. Depends on his ST contributions.
I think Radway as a WR spot cleary has more upside than Holley. Even Ogletree, whom I never been impressed with. Pulled for him, but may be time to move on.

I'm on the Radway bandwagon -- he looked very promising Thursday.
I look forward to seeing more of him as a kick returner and as a promising developing WR.
