IRVING, Texas – At one point in the first half, when rookie wide receiver Dwayne Harris came off the field following an incompletion, Cowboys head coach Jason Garratt had, well, what we should classify as a discussion with the sixth-round draft choice.
As rookie receivers might do, Garrett said Harris was dilly-dallying getting into his route and then out, wasting some unnecessary energy on moves. Also translating into wasting some precious NFL seconds trying to get open.
"So I told him, just go play," Garrett said following the Cowboys' 24-23 preseason-opening victory over the Denver Broncos Thursday night at Cowboys Stadium. "I told him to get me out of your head, get Rob (receivers coach Jimmy Robinson) out of your head. He was just taking too long."
Well, Harris, the Conference USA MVP from East Carolina, not to mention the Conference USA Special Teams MVP the previous season, must be a quick learner. Because early in the fourth quarter, with the Cowboys trailing 16-10, third-year quarterback Stephen McGee from the Cowboys 24-yard line called his number on a dump-off over the middle...
