ARLINGTON -- Tight end Martellus Bennett was a late scratch for Thursday's exhibition opener, but he said he should be back soon.
The fourth-year tight end said he tweaked a hamstring in practice Tuesday in San Antonio. He was planning to get a further evaluation Friday but said he didn't think the injury was serious.
"I didn't tear my hamstring," he said Thursday night after sitting out the Dallas Cowboys' preseason opener, a 24-23 victory over the Denver Broncos at Cowboys Stadium.
Safety Danny McCray is expected to miss a week after suffering a bone bruise in a collision on a pass play. He was hit by teammate Collin Zych as they tried to break up a pass, and he left the game to have his ribs and left shoulder examined. McCray led the team in special teams tackles last season with 28.
The Cowboys should get two starters back for today's 9 a.m. practice at Valley Ranch. Center Andre Gurode, who has been rehabbing from off-season knee surgery, and nose tackle Jay Ratliff (hip) are expected to practice.
