In 2010, many would say that Orlando Scandrick played better than any other Cowboys cornerback. As the year went on, he kept improving on his game, putting Jason Garrett's mantra to work and getting better day by day, especially after Garrett became the interim coach. And now we can add him to the list of players excited to coached by Rob Ryan and playing in his new system. As reported by Todd Archer:
Scandrick said he loves the system new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan is implementing.
"It allows me to put myself in a better position to make plays," Scandrick said. "It's not like this is the call, they know what's coming and you've got to play with it and I've got to out-athletic you on every play."

I'm not sure what to make of this. Part of me thinks its a positive, because when a player is confident in the system, he might play better. But another part of me thinks there is a whole lot of players that are putting a whole lot of blame on Wade Phillips' schemes. Those schemes didn't seem to be a problem in San Diego or you know, pretty much everywhere Wade Phillips has been.

I wouldn't put all the blame on Wade... Players have to make plays, simple as that.

True statement but in the NFL, successful defenses generate free pressure from schemes alone. We hardly had anyone get gimme sacks or ints because our D-cordinator created situations that out-manned or surprised the other team's OC. We rarely disguised anything and when we got burned blitzing we tend to tuck tail.
You will see what I mean when watching Rob's D.

I won't argue that either but still players have to make plays.

But why wouldn't that apply everywhere Wade has gone? If his schemes were so obvious to everyone, why wasn't it a problem everywhere else he has been? No, to me this sounds like a lot of excuse making -- our players were put in the proper positions and they just sucked. The fact that this excuse making has carried over into this year worries me. I would be a lot happier if all these players just admitted that their play was horrible and vow to do much better this year.
But so far, you've got Newman blaming the front seven, you've got Jenkins throwing a hissy fit and not talking to reporters and you've got Scandrick blaming the schemes for poor play. Disturbing.

I agree, no more excuses...

I have a theory about that as well. It is the reason why some DCs and OCs make terrible head coaches. I've heard many former coordinators say being a head coach makes them either too conservative or too Gung-Ho. I think Wade became far more conservative last year then any other time in his career Marx was the complete opposite, watching games confirms this.
You cannot line players up, down in and down out and expect them to win every or even most of the battles. Most schematically-even alignments favors the offense and when you are lined up schematically disadvantaged, the defense doesn't have a chance. OCs and Offenses are just too good to not give them multiple things to worry about. Every time I saw us line up in quarter or 3rd coverage and remained in that coverage drove me crazy.
Victor Butler said it best, Rob has taken the leash off of the defense. I would be surprised if we don't finish in the top 5 this year because OCs and QBs are not going to know or have an idea about where they are going with the ball during presnap.

Many are focusing on the safeties. With Rob it will be the pass pressure and the CBs. They also need to be able to stop the run up the middle.
