This is my favorite thing to come out of the conversation about the new kickoff rules. Bill Belichick used a kickoff question to move the conversation toward the extra point (http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/new-england-patriots/post/_/id/4700690/belichick-why-bother-with-p-a-t), and argued that it should be eliminated from the game, or at least greatly modified."Philosophically, plays that are non-plays shouldn't be in the game. I don't think it is good for the game. Extra points, when the odds are 99 percent range in extra points it is not a play. Let's move the ball back to the 15-20 yard line and not make it a tap in. Let them kick it. Same thing with the kickoff return, if you're just going to put the ball on the 20, put the ball on the 20."

Rumor has it that some on the patriot's staff go around video taping extra point attempts of other teams...The patriot's front office denies this.

Never really thought about it but does kind of make sense.

No point in just putting the team out there to go through the motions.

The kickoff rule is altogether ridiculous.

I can't remember who but one of the announcers the other night said the only reason they even have a kickoff anymore is because teams may want to onside kick at some point.

I don't like the idea mainly because it eliminates the 2 point conversion. Also, the PAT is somewhat important on the high school level and to a lesser extent the college level. But the 2-point conversion is too big to ignore. Then you have different levels of football playing a different game and I don't think that is wise.

And you can't say that it's going thru the motions, so get rid of it. Then we would have to eliminate spikes, kneel downs, etc.

But the 2-point conversion is too big to ignore. Then you have different levels of football playing a different game and I don't think that is wise.I suppose the rule could just as easily be "choose between (a) doing nothing and getting one point or (b) going for two points." Or something that's functionally identical - TDs are worth 7 points, and if you want, you can gamble one point on a "try" - make it and you gain a point (for a total of 8), fail and you lose a point (for a total of 6). Not saying I support this, but the extra point is pretty, well, pointless.

And you can't say that it's going thru the motions, so get rid of it. Then we would have to eliminate spikes, kneel downs, etc.Just because you can't get rid of all "go-through-the-motions" plays doesn't mean you shouldn't get rid of the ones you can.

Back up the extra point 10 yards and make it a little more challenging.

even though it was not an extra point Romo would tell you it is not a sure thing. :D

I'm with stupid on this. It's like watching someone pick up their ball after knocking in a putt. It's less than anticlimactic.

Ding ding ding. The extra point could mean something again. When it was first put in, it wasn't a gimme kick. Now anyone can hit it 99.9% of the time.

Crap, quite changing the game--except maybe cut down on commercials
