COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Investigators probing an alternative medicine doctor want to speak to at least nine current or former members of the Carolina Panthers (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=car) about possible illegal steroid prescriptions, a Columbia newspaper reported.
Dr. James Shortt, a West Columbia physician, is under investigation for allegedly prescribing steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs, The State said in Sunday editions. The newspaper based its story on court records and sources speaking on condition of anonymity.
Federal agents subpoenaed the Panthers for the addresses and contact information of several players as part of the probe.
"We've known about the investigation into Dr. Shortt for a short period of time and we are still trying to retrieve enough information to comment on it," Carolina general manager Marty Hurney said Sunday. "We certainly are not aware of any of our players testing positive for steroids."
Sources familiar with the investigation told the newspaper that some of the players were on the Panthers team that competed in the 2004 Super Bowl. Neither the paper nor Hurney revealed the identities of the players.
The newspaper said a sworn statement from Dave Lawrence, a State Law Enforcement Division agent, said Shortt has been under investigation since May 2004 when a Columbia bodybuilder told the Drug Enforcement Administration that Shortt had a reputation for readily prescribing steroids for patients in exchange for $1,000.
Four months later, authorities raided Shortt's Health Dimensions office and Congaree Pharmacy near the Columbia Metropolitan Airport. State and federal agents seized computer data, at least 21 boxes of patient and medical records and 256 audio cassettes, search documents obtained by The State show.

thats what I was wondering, more in regard to that playoff game last season when they were in Dallas's backfield as soon as the ball was snapped nearly every play.

Investigated by who and why aren't they invetigating every team?I suppose they are only investigating the Panthers because their players were the only ones who's names appeared in this Dr. Shorrt's records. I does not mean that the team was involved. It would seem likely that it was an individual pointing guys to the doctor as opposed to the team doing it. It is very likely that one player (asst. coach, trainer, whatever) on the team tipped the others off as to where they could get the scrips.

They won't rewrite history over this any more than they would if the whole team was on cocaine or speed or something. They are not going to go back and revoke Parcells and the Giants SB wins just because LT was so coked out that he couldn't feel pain and played like a maniac...same deal.

Something was tipping them off, they owned the snp count in that game.they said it was QC wiggling his fingers whenever he was about to snap the ball. Found that highly suspicious, considering the very next week, they were called for off-sides several times.
Even so, I'd be REAL curious to find out which panthers are involved. Peppers already has 4-gm suspension against him.

That was because of two things
A) QC being shellshocked by a playoff game and never mixing up the snap count
B) the Panther's DL being offsides half the time and never getting flagged for it

If McNabb was taking he was hsooting them into his belly instead of his muscles. HEHE.
Sorry man couldn't refuse.
The designer steroids is obviously a bigger problem than we recognized. They were fooling tests for years.

A little change of pace.......I seem to remember the 49er's getting into a "contract scandal" after their 94 Super Bowl win and all it got them was a loss of a draft choice.....I think I would take the loss a draft pick for the chance to win the super bowl! :)

I have always thought Dat may be juicing. He weighs the same he did in college, but is built differently.
If they are going to talk with anyone, it has to be with Bill Romanowski. That guy epitomizes roid rage. Maybe even Kyle Turley.

He was already implicated in the THG scandal. So I think it's pretty much a given when it comes to him. That's also why he's in court for ruining some kid's football career after crushing his eye socket in practice.

Steroid use by NFL players doesn't surprise anyone.
The fact that a major investigation into it has begun is big news, however.
