Good for the eagles...they totally deserve Vick, he fits in nicely!

I don't know. He's an injury waiting to happen with this frame and the way he plays the position.
Risky move.
Lets see how this is structured.....we have seen deals this big and the player never saw all the money that was reported.
The Eagles probably gained some cap room now....with this extension.......I wonder how DJ feels now?

That's just crazy money for a guy who is not, and never will be, a pocket passer. Eagles seem to be losing their edge in a front office that has been above average for at least a decade....not that I'm unhappy :D

He's looked like complete crap all preseason and they have all regular season to evaluate him and they STILL do it. :laugh2:
I dont hate Vick....he spent his time in Jail....
Vick is very talented....but with all running QB's....father time will slow you down. Last year Vick surprised me with his QB fundamentals...his accuracy improved......I just wonder if it was just a one year wonder.
With that OL like it is....Vick will get hit.....but then again....he plays in a friendly QB system and the NFL basically now have the Defense playing two hand touch on QB's
Its alot of money .....there is no doubt.....but it could be heavy backloaded.
The eagles are going to be screwed next year when it comes to cap room. No way they can have much left after all these signings.
Most of the deals they signed could be just 1 year deals with no cap hit in future years. Also with Vick being franchised and I think was counting 17 mil against the cap this year. Its safe to assume this extension will gain the Eagles more cap room this year and with the way the CBA is.....they could forward some of that cap space to the following year

Tony's going to have to give Jerry a major break if we're going to keep him. The $90-100m contract is just the going rate now for even just good QBs. Can't see him ever wanting to play anywhere else though.

Vick will see at least 60 of that 100 mil...And I think that 40 million may be all in the first two years with the third year base being 8 million. That would get 48 million in the first three years(16 million average).

Vick is 31 now...right?
So...with the last 3 yrs of his contract eating up 52 mil....
I cant see the Eagles paying a 34 yr old running QB that kind of money. You have to think...at 34....will Vick still have the wheels to run like he does now?

I dont know if this extension saves them any cap room .....Vick counted 17 mil before the extension.
But yes...the majority of the deals they signed in FA....could end up as just 1 year deals. But then again....they have to find replacement for those players next year.

I understand your secondary has alot of depth....but then again....trade in the works? or will they cut one of their young kids?

I thought he played amazing last year. The first time in his career where he looked like a real QB.
But having said that, if he played for my team I wouldn't be comfortable with that kind of commitment. He's played one year where the play matches the new contract and he's got serious injury concerns. Plus he's on the wrong side of 30. Those concerns will only get bigger.

a lot of qbs in the league r over 30.....steve young and randall both played well into their 30s
NA is versitle and move around much like woodsen (sp?) now does for the pack
every player in the league can be broken in half one day....its football....bottom line is that he is 23 years old, has had back to back 1K yard years, and 2 straight probowls

No worries here.....Before the year is out he will back to his 2/1 interception/td ratio and his usual 52% of passes completed.
He might have the people fooled as to his supposed rehab but his 90 IQ will surely come back and bite him before its all said and done.

I agree....I dont think losing DJ is a option....and they will have plenty of room to sign him.....and the odds are...maybe not this year...one of your high priced CB's will get traded and that will save you even more cap room.
But...with all these skilled players you have on offense....it will come down to the OL. If Vick is running for his life....chances are he will be hurt.
Also I would be concerned about how your defense is ...Im understand your DC is a hell of a coach but calling plays and game planning are a different beast. He is no Jim Johnson....

we also have 10+ picks again next year including 2 2nd and 2 3rds
there is a plan in place
our core playmakers are all 23-25years outside of vick
lol at people thinking the eagles will be a one n' done team after this year
More like none and done!

djack is going no where
thats just a pipe dream for teams who dont want to face him in green
remember the eagles have no1 tagged right now.....if the eagles and jackson cant come to an agreement he will be tagged
also i believe now with the money saved from vick and once they release or trade (who has a solid cap number) jackson will get his
Who?
yeaaa i think Washburn will be his right hand man throught the year which isnt a bad thing at all
also great to see steve smith practicing the last 2 days
I was surprised to hear Smith practice....didnt he have micro fracture surgery?
Both him and Maclin on the practice field....might be awhile before they are 100%
I didnt really understand the Smith signing....with Avant and the other young kid you have....I didnt really think the Eagles needed another WR.
But again....if you dont shore up that OL....Vick wont have time to get the ball to the WR's. .....maybe you will just dink and dunk teams to death :) Damn west coast offense

lol some people really dont understand how the cap works
the eagles wont be hurting in the cap
all of their big signing this offseason expect NA were deals with one year cut and move on options
also the vick moves saves them cap space this year and now free's up space so sign djack
good move by the eagles
The problem is that those possible 1-year guys like Jenkins and Babbin are taking valuable roster space and playing time away from young guys who will either be cut or warming the bench when they otherwise could be gaining valuable experience. So your options are bring those guys back next season and not have enough cap room to sign Desean or cut those guys, re-sign Desean and have a couple rookies on a D Line that's already sub-par and backed by an awful group of linebackers. All this will happen with a $16M per year QB, a WR who wants big money, an awful O Line and lots of money paid to the secondary. You better hope your Eagles win it all this year.

Only thing with Steve Smith practicing now is that he's no longer eligible for the PUP list so the Eagles have to keep him on the 53-man roster or cut him. Of course he can't go on IR since he'd be lost for the season. If he can't contribute the first few weeks, that's a wasted roster space. They may have to keep an extra receiver instead of using a roster spot for a position where they are thin like offensive line or linebacker.

I dont know if that applies with this new CBA.
I think you can put anyone on the pup list before the season...even if he has practiced. Im not sure...but I think I remembered reading that somewhere.
I was wrong.....Smith will not be able to go on the PUP list...

Physically Unable to Perform list
Many brought up the PUP list when the Rams lost CB Jerome Murphy to a fractured ankle early in camp. Murphy was not eligible because he began camp on the active roster. Only players who cannot practice at the start of training camp can be placed on the PUP list. Those players can be moved to the active roster at any time.
Only second-year CB Marquis Johnson is on the Rams' PUP list.
If Johnson begins the season on the PUP list, he cannot practice or play for at least six weeks. PUP players can begin practicing after six weeks, and their teams have three weeks from the time the player starts practicing to add them to the active roster. If the player does not practice within that three week window, they have to be left on the PUP list the entire season.

I'm happy for him. He served his time and worked hard to get back to where he is today. It's funny how hypocritical people are who continue to wish bad upon him, like yall never have messed up anything in your own lives.
exactly, I've expressed the same sentiments.
with that said it seems like an unwise deal but im sure philly structured it in away to somewhat protect themselves. he'll be lucky to see half of that

That's kind of different in that Murphy started on the active roster and then fractured his foot. It's saying that since he started on the active roster, he's ineligible to be put on the PUP list. Smith started on the PUP list and then became active. It wouldn't be fair though if Smith would still be eligible to be put back on the PUP list while Murphy would not, since both guys have been at some point been on the active list. So reading that makes me think the old rule hasn't changed and anyone who's been on the active roster isn't eligible for the PUP list. My understanding is that you can only go on the PUP list for the regular season if you were PUP for training camp. After that you're either on the active roster or injured reserve or practice squad (if eligible). Actually Peyton Manning had to be taken off of the PUP list last Saturday or he would have been on it for the regular season so I think any eligibility for the PUP list is over.

I gotta tell you dude. I hate the Eagles and their fans probably more than anything on the planet. But, there have been several attempts by a few troglodytes to troll you into something other than intelligent football conversation. You've avoided the bait and tried to maintain an intelligent back and forth with a couple of other posters while avoiding the low hanging fruit. Never thought I'd say this to an Eagles fan, but Kudos for being the classy one.

laugh at those that claimed he was MVP last year. He had a stretch of less than half a season where he was very good; by the end of the year he was stinking it up.

Psychotic behavior is not cured by incarceration. There have been smarter people around him since he got out, guiding him to this pay day.
I have little doubt that once he retires within a decade he'll be linked to the same thing that got him in prison in the first place.
Roethlisboerger is a rapist.
Vick is a psychotic.
Brady dates super models.
Eli is an elite QB.
One of the above four statements is false.

Never get excited about these contracts until you read the small print and know the guaranteed money. Now they can actually use the franchise tag on Jackson if they want to keep him for the next two years without resigning him.
I hate the Eagles, but to assume they've made a huge salary cap/business error is to think with your emotions because recent history doesn't support that view.

One of the above four statements is false. It could be argued that one of the choices is worded incorrectly. Serial rape has been linked to narcissistic personality disorder.
Those with the disorder exhibit traits and behaviors of self-infatuation and self-fixation to the exclusion of anyone else. (Violent) self-gratification and dominance over others are associative egotistical impulses.
What some (not speaking of you in this case) may think is that psychotic behavior must be witnessed by observers as obvious changes in mood, seeing things (having hallucinations), suffering catatonia, etc. Personality disorders that are narcissistic (or in the other example, antisocial) are very often disguised by seemingly normal behavior.
Questions arise when actions according to behavior are compounded. If someone is inclined to sexually assault others more than once, there is a marked rational disconnect which exceeds what might be considered "ordinary" criminal activity. If someone has the impulse to repeatedly kill solely for enjoyment sake, the disconnect is likewise apparent.

Stop. No one here has done anything close to what Vick has done, so the hypocritical label does not apply.
I don't even think what Vick did outside of football has any bearing on this. I just don't think he is a good enough QB to win a championship. He will win you a bunch of regular season games, but he will wither in the big post season games.
I don't wish bad upon him, but I do think he will face some injuries this season. He always has in the past due to his style of play. Add in that the Eagles O-line is not that great this season. I don't necessarily think it will happen early in the season, but at some point he will be out. That is part of the nature of the NFL and why teams need good back up QBs.

The birds would have been smarter to wait through this season; yeah it would have been expensive but I really do believe they will find out that even in these times of protecting the QB to a stupid degree, Vick will get laid out.
As it is he could get snapped in half and they are on the hook for $40 million.

It actually wouldn't have even been that much more expensive, burm. IIRC it was posted earlier in the thread that savings from his franchise hit to his actual contract hit was around 1.4 million (I'm too lazy to go back and look it up). But either way, it isn't like they were saving themselves 4-5 million by getting the deal done right now. At the very least I would have waited until November to make sure that the Vick they are getting is the one that played the first 3/4 of last season and not the Vick that played the last 1/4 of the season before I committed to that type of contract.
Not that any of this breaks my heart. In the long run, I think the Eagles will look back at this whole thing as a mistake.
Edit: The savings this year was 1.8 million
In 2012, Vick earns a guaranteed base salary of $12.5 million. His cap number is $13.9 million.
In 2013, Vick’s base salary is $16.5 million, but it has a $1 million de-escalator, which would drop the salary to $15.5 million. (The specific event that would drop his salary isn’t known.) Only $3 million of the amount is guaranteed, for injury only. The cap number is $16.9 million.
For 2014, Vick’s base salary of $12.5 million can escalate to $15 million. He also has a $3 million roster bonus, and a cap number of $19.4 million.
For 2015, Vick has a base salary of $14.5 million, with a roster bonus of $2 million. The cap number is $17.9 million.
After year two, when all of the fully guaranteed money has been paid, it will be easy for the Eagles to walk away.
In 2013, they’d take a pre-June 1 cap hit of $4.2 million. In 2014, the pre-June 1 cap hit would be $2.8 million. After June 1, they’d split a $1.4 million cap charge over 2014 and 2015.
The deal essentially guarantees Vick the franchise tag amount for 2011, 2012, and a slice of 2013 (injury only), with no real guarantees beyond that.http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/08/30/more-vick-contract-details/?utm_source=bleacherreport.com&utm_medium=referral
Now I'm capoligist. But that looks like a pretty good deal to me.
