Before anyone starts posting "obvious" yet speculation keeps/cuts, I want to point out that I am limiting the updates to players who have announced they were told they would be cut and players who can be confirmed by a news source as retained or who recently received new contracts.

While it may appear "obvious" that the Cowboys will keep four running backs based on comments by Jerry Jones recently, until it is announced or confirmed by a news source, they will not be moved to the cut/kept lists.

If Holley really does make it in this league, his story will probably be one of the most singular as far as how he got into the league. I was impressed with him in the preseason as well. Does a good job on finishing blocks and on special teams. Now that he is starting to look like a receiver I'm happy for him and happy he made the team. :P

Is there any way we can keep 4 TE's, 4 RB's and Chapas.

I can't see that happening and Chapas doesn't deserve to make it from what I've seen.

As an organization it seems like we over analyze the FB position.

It's not like there aren't good FB's coming out in the draft, we just seem to evaluate them the same way we evaluated OL 2000-2010.

Josh Thomas and Mario Butler both cut? Hmm, surprising move considering the health status of our starting CBs is still up in the air. One of them has to be kept on the PS though, I'm sure of it.

They've gotta be looking at free agent ILBs though. No way they should feel comfortable with only 3 ILBs and 2 of those who have some injury/durability concerns

It's not like he played like a scrub before he got hurt.

He showed more potential this pre-season than guys like Stepfret Williams, Zuriel Smith, Skyler Green, etc. ever did.

Yes he was raw, but for a raw WR he caught the ball (see: with his hands) very well, IMO.

Not sure what this means. Is it a good thing Dallas put Radway on IR or does it say something bad about the team?

I think it was a pretty easy decision. The guy played well and they get to keep him for a year without having to sacrifice a roster spot.

It's actually not, I was lambasted here when I criticized the pick of Chapas.

Well, just read my thoughts here.

http://cowboyszone.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3934566&postcount=73

Garretts office utilizes the TE in the FB/H-Back role.

He is 100% correct. If Phillips would not have been hurt, Gronk would of never made the team.

http://cowboyszone.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3934587&postcount=90

I have no problem with the pick, just don't know much about him and don't see a roster spot for him. Dallas is not going to keep 3 RB's/3 TE's and a FB on the active roster and Garrett's offense does not require a true FB. Unless John Phillips struggles I dont see how he makes the team.

http://cowboyszone.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3934612&postcount=105

Given Bennett is back and Phillips is healthy I'll bet my first born he won't and if he does he will be on the practice squad in case one of the TE's goes down.

He has a broken leg. Even if they cut him, unless some team claimed him and put him on their 53-man roster, he would automatically revert to our injured reserve list. So either way, the result is the same.

Agree
Radway was VERY raw, but it's hard to deny that he at least is worth keeping around to develop. I think he was heading for the PS, but like Harris, you can clearly see upside potential. Moreso, imo, than either Holley or Johnson. Holley is better right now though.

Trade him anyway, ask for a 2nd and settle for no less than a 3rd.....

Then we can add another OL, S, or LB to our roster. Also, once either Bailey or Beuhler wins the job outright, cut the other and sign a player for another area of need.

Just read that the Chiefs put TE Tony Moeaki on IR and are shopping for a pass catching TE. If Bennett wasn't hurt, I think he'd be a candidate for trade eh?

That tells me more than anything that we won't release Rucker, as it would be handing him over to the Chiefs. Rucker is the epitome of a pass catching TE. No way would he make it to the practice squad.

We would entertain a trade for Rucker, though.

Another possibility is we are waiting for the Chiefs to make a move for a TE, so that the coast is clear to waive Rucker.

Have we ever determined who besides Holland is gone?

Two players signed and one gone puts us 1 over unless we missed a news item.

I thought Dockery's signing wasn't official yet so the team may not yet have decided/announced who they will cut.

Why would we want to do that?

DC.com said Colombo, Gurode, Davis, and Holland all arrived over weight and out of shape. Message to the players. Come to camp over weight and out of shape; you won't be a Cowboy.

Wasn't Roy Williams also out of shape when he reported to the bears?

I don't know about Barber but he was clearly a salary dump as he had been demoted to 3rd string.

Tony Fiametta - he was just cut Carolina. He hasn't played since a concussion from preseason week 1.

My guess is Garrett is still looking for his dominant lead blocker.

I do worry that his concussion symptoms are still persisting almost a month later. FB isn't a great position for someone with a concussion given the nature of regular high-impact collisions.

I think someone posted that it may have more to do with his neck now and not the concussion, but he was projected by the panthers to be ready by gm 1(before he was cut).

Google:

The Panthers were without 16 players due to injury Friday night against the Miami Dolphins, including wide receiver Steve Smith (finger) and running backs Jonathan Stewart and Mike Goodson, both of whom sat out with sore Achilles. Among the others sitting out on offense were fullback Tony Fiammetta (neck), guard Geoff Schwartz (hip), right tackle Jeff Otah (knee) and tight end Gary Barnidge (ankle).

Offensive guard Derrick Dockery and fullback Tony Fiammetta participated in their first practice Monday with the Cowboys after signing Sunday. Both said they don't expect it to take them very long to learn the Cowboys' offense.

"I'm just trying to learn as I go," Fiammetta said. "I just got in last night. My first time at the facility was this morning. I'm just trying to absorb as much and be a sponge and trying to learn the offense as quickly as possible. I'm definitely coming to a winning organization and I want to do whatever I can to help this team win games this year."http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/dallas-cowboys/headlines/20110905-cowboys-derrick-dockery-tony-fiammetta-say-they-can-learn-quickly.ece

If Robinson WAS signed, who's being cut, and how long does a team have to cut one player when signing another?

I think they can use the same taxi at the airport.
