come on jerry:starspin but idk. I heard he had some legal troubles. like 5 months ago or so he was accused of shooting 2 men or something. Idk if true or what happen with that. Might be why he has been released.

I wonder if Gabe watson could be a NT in our system or so. He passes the eye ball test. about 6'2 330lbs. We need to get bigger on the d-line.

FS chris horton has also been released by the skins.

Redskins fans are ruing.

Rick Maese of the Washington Post (https://twitter.com/#%21/RickMaese)reports the Redskins have waaived quarterback Kellen Clemens.

Clemens completed 18-of-33 passes (54.5 percent) for 203 yards (6.2 YPA) and a 70.6 passer rating for the Redskins this preseason. It would not be surprising to see Clemens return to the Jets now that backup Greg McElroy has a dislocated thumb.

Good point, I noticed Sensy is listed as our FS and Elam as the SS on ESPN's depth chart. I thought it was the other way around but like you said the days they are just safeties that need to be able to do it all.

This one I would look at.

Aaron Wilson of the Carroll County Times (http://twitter.com/#%21/RavensInsider/status/110033324352864256) reports the Indianapolis Colts have released defensive tackle Tommie Harris. Harris was drafted in the first round of the 2004 NFL draft by the Chicago Bears. He played his college ball at Oklahoma. He was a star in Chicago until injuries derailed his career and was cut by the Bears in 2010.

Some random Pats fan had this to say about him a couple weeks ago:

Brandon is a finesse corner playing safety. All of his issues stem from his mental training since becoming a pro. He was tutored under Harrison but cannot do the things Harrison excelled at. He is not in essence a 3rd or 4th LB that can make plays in the box and provide coverage in the defensive backfield. Chung can do that, but he needs to get his weight up. This dude is not built like that. Whenever he tries to be hard-nosed, he ends up getting penalized or burned and we all know his tackling is not up to snuff, so freelancing is the obvious byproduct of that. He no longer trusts his skills within THIS system. He needs to be in a system where he can just fly around ala Ed Reed and make plays. However, Reed can tackle properly, play run support and make turnovers into touchdowns...things Brandon cannot do.

We don't need any more knuckleheads on our team.

Normally I'd agree 100%...but because of his talent and our problems in the secondary, I would be all for giving him a shot here.

The guy has the potential to be a game changer for someone, he just needs to get his head on straight...Although I would be remiss if I didn't mention the fact that NE is willing to gamble on Haynesworth and Ocho but not Meriweather for some reason.

I agree with you. I really want to look at this guy he is just too talented at a position of need. But in no way would I compare his issues to Albert and Ocho. Ocho is just a guy who likes to have a good time and loves being a celebrity, but he really doesn't do anything bad. Mayweather was present at a recent shooting, it may not have been him but he has a sketchy past.

I dunno, a lot of things to look at with this guy. I hope we do look though.

FOXBORO — Six months after his name was mentioned as a possible suspect in a shooting near his hometown, Patriots [team stats] safety Brandon Meriweather has been cleared.

Meriweather is “not considered a suspect” in an investigation into a Feb. 27 shooting in Apopka, Fla., an official in the Orange County Sheriff’s Department told the Herald. The investigation has now been “inactivated” until further evidence emerges, with no charges filed.http://bostonherald.com/sports/football/patriots/view.bg?articleid=1358358&srvc=sports&position=2

Exactly, the Boys need a WR badly. Miles Austin is not healthy, hamstrings do not go away that fast and they can easily be re-tweaked. Also, Miles Austin has a history with hamstring problems. Brandon Tate, Justin Gage, Donnie Avery, Tori Gurley (Packers), and Chastin West (Packers). The Boys need to pick one of these guys up asap.

Justin Gage freaking blows, I know because my brother is a huge Titans fan and we watched all of their preseason games this year. Gage cant fight through a jam to get a good release, spends more time looking at the safeties than actually looking for the ball, and he is not very fast.

On a side not however, Jake Locker looks to be a stud. I watched all 4 of the Titan preseason games and Locker outplayed Hasselbeck in my opinion.

We have two very good starters and at least a couple of guys who can play slot and outside if necessary if a starter is injured. Not many teams have had All Pros or even Pro Bowl receivers at every position contrary to Wayne02.
The Cowboys are fine at receiver and if Miles or Dez go down you won't find a guy at their level without a job. If they were lost for the season, then yeah maybe you make a move but otherwise why panic over the stronger positions?

No one said you have to have Pro Bowlers at every position, but this has turned into a passing league and the last two Super Bowl champions (Packers and Saints) have had 5 receivers that could step up at any time and contribute.

We have Dez and Miles, that's great. Right now Miles is struggling with his hammy which is very difficult to overcome. Miles has a past with injuring his hammy and with his limited reps and a shortened TC, it's hard for me to believe that he is healthy.

Our three backups consist of a guy who has 10 career receptions (7 of those being bubble screens); a rookie, who has tremendous upside, but is not yet ready to step in and contribute heavily (he also has a concussion and may or may not be ready for the opener); and then we have Jesse Holley, who is a very hard worker, but is not a quality receiver that we can depend on, if and when the injuries start to occur.

IMO, I believe we need more help at the WR position, seeing how our backups have a combined 10 receptions between the 3 of them (7 of those being bubble screens)

speaking of Super Bowl Champs, realize that the Saints and Packers and especially Colts, Patriots had guys who were practice squad called up due to injury at receiver and running back. The common thing is (obviously a pretty decent qb) but that guys stepped up and you had guys no one knew catching passes from Peyton Manning and guys running for the Packers I think he was 4th team- Brees throws to 50 different dudes per game so the point is your guy goes down you can spread it around or let your younger guys step up. It happens all the time. Should be happy Dallas has 2 beasts at WR plus a Pro TE with other guys learning from them.

But if you want to pursue the idea fine.

I'm definitely happy that we have 2 studs at WR, but right now Miles is injured. He may start during the first game against the Jets, but hammy injuries are the most irritating injuries in football. Miles hasn't gotten enough reps to be considered fully healthy and it is a cause for concern. Ogletree has proven time and time again that he cannot be trusted as a #2 WR. Holley wouldn't even be on the roster if Radway hadn't gotten injured so you definitely can't rely on him. IMO, another WR is needed because we don't have anybody who can step up and be the #2 WR if and when Miles Austin's hammy gets pulled again.

I'm guessing this guy must have been a real headcase for them to just outright cut him unexpectedly like this. Didn't he just make the probowl the last couple years?

Cowboys should pursue former Patriot safety Brandon MeriweatherAUTHOR: Steven Mullenax | IN: Cowboys | COMMENTS: 9 Comments |
Would Brandon Meriweather look good in a Dallas Cowboy uniform?
On Saturday, every NFL team was required to turn in their final 53 man rosters. Basically, today a lot of players got fired and placed on waivers. Arguably, the biggest name released so far is two time pro bowl safety for the New England Patriots, Brandon Meriweather. I hope Jerry Jones heart fluttered a little when he heard the news. Mine did.
But let’s not jump the gun too soon. Your next question should be why was he released? What’s wrong with him? That means it time for a little research.
Meriweather is a former 2007 first round pick. He played his college ball for Miami (FL). And he has never missed a game since being draft, so there’s no history of major injury.
In 64 played games, Meriweather’s recorded 263 tackles, 2 sacks and 12 interceptions. That means he averaged over 4 tackles a game. And those 12 career interceptions seem to be just what Dallas was looking for.
Meriweather was fined $50,000 for two helmet-to-helmet hits on Raven’s tight end Todd Heap last year. But that could just be attributed to the nature of a violent game.
But here’s the real problem with Meriweather: Attitude. Rumor has it Meriweather’s a good kid, but one that suffers from major immaturity issues. And it appears that his childish antics and his on-the-field struggles this preseason got him put in Pat’s Coach Bill Belichick’s dog house early on. This was never more evident than in the Pat’s final preseason game. While the starters sat out, as they normally do in the final game, the fourth year veteran was sent out by Coach Belichick to play in the final quarter with the 3rd and 4th stringers.
New England searched for a trade yesterday for Meriweather, but there were no takers. Therefore, he was released today.
I don’t think this is an opportunity Dallas can pass up. Meriweather was a pro bowl caliber player not that long ago. And he’s still so young. He can still get his top game back. And we desperately need the help in the defensive back field. It’s definitely a “buyer-beware” type situation, but I think it’s also worth the risk.
Let’s hope Stephen Jones is dialing Meriweather’s agent phone number right now.

As a fan of another AFC East team let me say this: Merriweather is Ken Hamlin 2.0, except with more physical tools and even less awareness.

I don't think he's a good fit for the Cowboys, but obviously if Rob Ryan thinks he can use him, they'll get him.

If the Pats cut a player like that than it's probably for good reason so I'll say pass.

He's better than what we currently have, but he's not a "right kind of guy". Who knows though, maybe Rob is bothered enough by how our secondary played this pre-season that he can talk JG into making an exception.
