The actor was preparing for the second season of Starz's series when he was diagnosed and had to drop out; Liam McIntyre replaced him in the role.
Andy Whitfield, the 39-year-old star of the Starz series Spartacus: Blood and Sand, has died.

Manager Sam Maydew says Whitfield died Sunday of non-Hodgkin Lymphoma in Sydney, Australia.

His name seems familiar to me but I didn't recognize him when I read about this on an entertainment site. Regardless it's very sad.

39. Truly stinks; the guy also seemed, unlike all too many hollywood types, a real good person as well.

Truly horrible news. He was such a great actor and the main reason I started watching the series. RIP Andy.

I loved that show, can't wait for the next season.

It's a shame, I know he had a relapse with it, he was getting better and then had a relapse(maybe not the word I'm looking for?)

OK substitute gratiutous. same thing frankly. If you can just stand back and ignore the foul language and nudity and the like, it is nowhere near as good as the Original Spartacus.

Kirk was the man, I take it you mean the movie with Kirk.

However one is a movie and one is a serious.

Both are good in their own right and one does not need bashed to better another.

We get it...you don't like seeing boobies, just don't be a debbie downer for the rest of us who do. ;)

The nudity and language are nothing compared to the fight scenes. They are awesome!
