Double-Thud!
Blocked Punt Dooms Cowboys Once Again
Nick Eatman
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The worst sound in football: the dreaded double-thud.
At least it's an awful sound for the punting team. That's what rookie linebacker Alex Albright heard midway through the fourth quarter after the Jets blocked a Mat McBriar punt that tied the score at 24-24.
"It's the worst," said McBriar, who has now had three punts blocked and returned for touchdowns since 2008. "I really don't know what happened on this one, but it came right up the middle. When that happens, it's hard to get it off. But right now, without watching the tape, it's hard to tell what happened."
Special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis had a feeling what went wrong and said he was mainly disappointed because the Jets already showed that look earlier in the game.
"We blocked it well a couple of times, but we didn't get it done right then," DeCamillis said. "It's extremely disappointing because I thought we played great up to that point against a group that I thought we'd have a lot of trouble with."
