Dr. Michael Kaplan analyzes Tony Romo’s injury. The medical expert says Romo's lung needs to heal completely for him to be able to play safely and that he'd be surprised if it did within a week's time.

I'd be surprised too, and I not even an expert, don't even play one on the internet. Let Kitna go-- with some stepped up practice time he'll be okay.

I have confidence that Kitna can hold the fort for these next two games. Let Romo heal for the Patriots.

I'm hoping he can go. Washington is gonna bring the house on him though and make him want to sit. Our O-Line needs to take a huge step forward this week to protect him.

Well if he dies in game at least he'll go out with toughness...

He was cleared the day it happened by the doctors, therefore, I like his chances with 7 days rest ;)

But I am not sure they knew the full extent of the injury at that time.

I hope he can play but completely understandable if he can't go. Either way I would expect Kitna to get more reps than normal this week.

It's hard to KNOW anything, really, but if latest reports are true, and as his injury situation clarifies a little it's imponderable to me that any staff physician would release him to play vs the Foreskins and possibly for a good spell. Romo doesn't get a vote in this particular case...not about being gritty.

We'll be ok with Kitna if he doesn't play, doubt he got a lot of 1st team work going into Sundays game and the picks looked to be poor communication. Give him a full week and that shouldn't be a problem again.
If we can get to the bye at 2-2 and get healthy then i like our chances down the stretch so there's no reason to go all inn in week 3

lol, internet tough guys at it again:laugh2:

this is not a "toughness" thing guys, get off your high horse and stop pretending as if you know anything

if his lung is punctured because of fractured ribs he should not be allowed to play a contact sport like football until it completely heals up

he would be putting himself at risk for lung collapse and serious health issues if he takes another hit

Detroit looks pretty good, and the skins are better than many predicted. Still, if we have to go with Kitna, so be it. I think he will give us a chance to win.

I don't think anyone around here is in a position to know if Tony can go or not. Right now it is wait and see, I'm sure the Cowboys medical staff will be relied on to help make the determination.

His performance against the 49ers last week suggests otherwise.

But he didn't die, did he? So he should be good to go. He's playing.

I think he'll be sidelined for at least a week... I would personally hold him out until after the bye week.

If he can go, Tony needs to play every game he can imo. Wins in the beginning of the season are just as important as those at the end, and our schedule is backloaded again.

Risking one's life for a football game is just not worth it. This is a serious injury....Kitna can hold his own against the likes of the Redskins. Detroit will give us fits either way but we need Romo back after the bye and the only way to guarantee that is to let him heal up. I admire toughness but not stupidity. It would be plain stupid to play any further with that type injury.

If he has a large enough pneumo he will not be allowed to play. And it's not life threatening unless it's pretty large. If he has a small pneumo then it will be whether or not he has mobility, can throw the ball and tolerate the pain. He's not going to die in a stadium with plenty of EMTs and doctors around even if the worse happens.

I'd bet a small amount of money he'll play. How long depends on how well they protect him and how well Tony can play. I'm not convinced he will be his normal productive self. We'll see.

He shouldn't play. Sit him until after the bye and then see where he's at then.

Sometimes you have to save the player from himself. It aint about being a tough guy. Be a smart guy. Football isn't worth risking your life.

Looking forward to the game. Keys to the game will be Dallas defensive rush on the Redskins woeful offensive line play. The pressure on Sex Cannon in the first two weeks is concerning. The Cowboys pass rush is my main concern.

I think we win this game with Romo or Kitna, because it's a better coached team, and even with all the other injuries immensely talented offensively and likely to put up 30; I don't think Rex can hang.

Plus we have Ware and Lee and a couple of emerging pressure players up front to cover up some things on the backside. But anyway, both QBs are fully capable here, even if Kitna is well past his prime and Romo in pain/immobile. Or if I'm wrong about the victor, I really don't think blame will be laid at the feet of the QB. No excuses will be offered from my perch.

Where is all this "risking his life" talk coming from? He isn't risking his life for crying out loud. Man, the Internet...

He will play as long as he can perform and play with whatever discomfort is there, and they can pad him in such a way to give him additional protection. He isn't going to pop like a balloon on the field out there.

More important is whether the OL is going to gel to keep Tony from getting hit like a pinata again. A fully healthy QB can get knocked out of a game if he isn't protected. Tony stepped up last week, we need that OL to step up this week.

Per the doctor on ESPN radio yesterday morning, Romo has a displaced rib fracture. That has to be the case in order to puncture a lung. His lung puncture is very small. If he were to take a hit in that area again before his fracture heals he could more severely puncture his lung and the risks attached to that include death.

This is from a doctor. I'll take his word for it.
