Speaking of routes, do you know why almost none of these storms shot the gap into the Gulf and up to Texas this yr? Steering currents?

I clicked on this thread expecting to be greeted by some pale, delicate, and brooding beauty. Disappointment is probably too strong but ... :D

El Nino creates a wind sheer that cuts across Mexico and the Caribbean in a horizontal layer. Not only is the wind blowing anything away from the GOM, but the sheer rips any fledgling storm in the GOM apart before it has a chance to form. An oversimplification of what happens, but you get the gist of it.
