ESPN's John Clayton reports there's an interesting holdup in the DE Darren Howard -to-Dallas trade -- Cowboys HC Bill Parcells doesn't want to give up LB Dat Nguyen, who is considered a small linebacker in Parcells' defensive scheme. Howard, the Saints' franchise player, is being discussed in a deal that could sent Nguyen to New Orleans along with a possible second-round choice for Howard. Nguyen is 5-11, 243 pounds. Now, after talking about how he wanted bigger linebackers, Parcells doesn't want to give up Nguyen because he likes his leadership, hustle and playmaking ability.

I hope it's a player for player trade with no draft pick included. We can draft a replacement for Dat, we can't draft a D-lineman to save the world.

I posted this in another thread, cuz I was trying not to create another new thread. But it's cool. I think the Nazi Mod Brainpaint is offline right now...:p:

j/k Brain, 4 real I was just kidding...

Honestly, I could see BP having a problem dealing Dat. No matter how some fans think he's underrated or overrated, BP obviously likes him and doesn't want to let him go. And on the practical, probably creates yet another hole to be filled if we give up Dat.

The Saints fans in the office rally like Dat. They see the hard work and intensity he brings to the field. It's something they haven't had in their linebacking position since the 90's.

This whole Howard trade was a sort of fabrication. Yes, Dallas was interested. Saints wanted a #2 and Dat. WE ARE BALKING ON DAT- publicly over weekend! Clayton is reporting old news.....

Yes we talked to Howard who wants a $16M sb, $35M Deal. that ended that discussion......

Talks over - dead deal.

 I'm confused. How did you go from Clayton reporting old news (which could be the case) to the talks are dead?

 I'm confused. How did you go from Clayton reporting old news (which could be the case) to the talks are dead? It's called an agenda and he pimps his hard. To the point that what he hopes for becomes fact and he'll report it that way. Even if it is so far off base from the truth as to be ludicruous. I respect him for sticking to his guns, just wish he'd allow for the fact that he states things with no basis in fact whatsoever.

The Saints had a team in the 90's?? The only game i ever remember them being involved in is when they played the cowboys (go figure) on a monday night and larry allen chased down a corner after an INT and saved a touchdown. Other than that i think the Saints were just hibernating in the 90's

No you need to take a step back here.

Over the weekend Dallas publicly stated they are not trading Dat as part of this deal.

Today Clayton and ESPN are screwed because they are/were pushing a trade that Aint happening. His report today just states what was reported over the weekend, Parcells won't part with Dat. No agenda.

I'm sure ESPN and Clayton were the driving force in trade negotiations.

there have always been guys too small or too slow to play the game (emmitt smith comes to mind) and yet manage to make a decent living at it. dat nguyen is one of those guys. he is a playmaker - the leading tackler on a team is a good indication of that. with a decent front line (we all agree its been mediocre) we'll see him in on even more plays. its nice to have playmakers, but its also critical in having someone who is rarely out of position, or fails to make a tackle. not having Dat will cost this defense points - Bill is smart enough to know this team needs Dat in the middle. yes, for his playmaking...

I hope this quiets the BP doesn't like Dat because he is small crowd.

Then again, I know it won't.

Well I think everyone is missing the point here.

We are talking about John Clayton.

Since when has he reported anything accurate about the Cowboys.

I find it hard to believe he would be the only one who knows this, but never knows anything else about the Cowboys.

So to wrap this up there probably is a
33% Clayton is right (minus a 10% previous record penalty)
33% chance Jerry is actually the one
33% neither want to part with DAT.

You're the poster who claimed ESPN fabricated the trade rumors for Howard. The reason you make a stupid claim like that is beyond obvious, it doesn't fit your agendas. Not my fault you're married to those things.

DC.com and every media outlet including ESPN has reported we are trying to make this deal. Fabrication? Wake up man. If you want to say the Dat rumors are speculation fine, I'll agree with you, but be consistent.

This trade will likely happen. Sorry to once again burst your agenda balloons.

I wouldn't be surprised if they go after John
Abraham, the Jets are telling him they look to
trade.Ferg and Abe?Could be getting interesting.
Sure like the fact, the Cowboys are really being active
this offseason.

I never said fabricated, I SAID SORT OF FABRICATED - but they sure do embelish things. They made more out of this Howard story than there ever was. THATS WHAT THEY DO TO FILL AIR, DEAL DONE YET?

Jones is in Arizona at Baseball games, Parcells in Florida. No one is working this deal hard at all. I bet JJ ended all talks after the $16M bonus was thrown at him.....

Last night you yourself said this whole deal was speculation in another thread. Now you know its happening. OK

Watch ESPN today - they will have Abraham deal in the works..... :p:

I agree and do not understand why some feel that way, Parcells has said on many occations how he feels about Dat and said Dat was one of the players he can count on. For those who are only judging Dat by size alone is a mistake. The guy is a good ball player
