ARLINGTON -- It wasn't Babe Ruth pointing to the outfield fence with his baseball bat and following it up with a homerun, but in his own way, Cowboys outside linebacker Anthony Spencer called his shot Monday night against the Washington Redskins.
Before the Cowboys defense took the field with 1:40 to play in the fourth quarter, clinging to an 18-16 lead, Spencer told fellow outside backer DeMarcus Ware that he was going to cause a fumble.
And that's exactly what he did five plays later, chasing down Redskins quarterback Rex Grossman and knocking the ball loose with 28 seconds to play.

Spencer has been playing at a much higher level than last season. Good for him.

Its a contract year. I hope they are not fooled. Once he gets his money, he will disappear again.

That was a great play by Spencer, these guys on defense hustled all night long and it paid off big time in the end.

Spencer has been better but thats to be expected when not quitting.
He showed really nice pursuit a couple of times.
Stepped up big at the end and won the game.

Rob has been a godsend for the entire D and especially for Spencer. In many ways, I think Wade stunted Spencer's growth by not holding him accountable and how he utilized him.
This D is shaping up to be special and I mean scary special.

Or maybe it's the new scheme from the new D coordinator and having a new motivating head coach? No? Your 100% sure it's just because of the contract? Ok, thanks for sharing the wisdom

Yeah, it couldn't POSSIBLY be that Spencer has skills that translate well to Rob Ryan's new scheme... because in your cynical world, players only get better in contract years, and when they do, they always revert back to suckitude once they've gotten paid...

I think that Spencer, Ware, Lee and Hatcher in particular have taken to Rob's defense... it's fun watching their development...
I certainly didn't expect this kind of improvement, this quick... I have to keep reminding myself that we're still a work in progress, and that 3 games is still a rather small sample size...

Me either. I am willing to bet that he doesn't even have all of his installations in. We are playing tough and confident, the D is not wilting at the first moment of adversity but thriving off of it. All of the holding and all of the cheating only fired Ware and the rest of the D up. By mid season barring any significant injuries, we should have a championship level D.

I'm REALLY REALLY surprised that SPENCER is just now starting to realize that IF WARE takes a strong INSIDE RUSH, it will FLUSH the QB either to back up or go into the SPACE that Ware originally lined up at.
Either way, if SPENCER rushes hard to the outside, he GETS THE FREAKIN SACK and/or STRIP when the WB bails out due to WARE coming like a mad-man to the inside.
Spencer could get 15 sacks himself just from waiting for the QB to bail out when WARE takes that INSIDE spin rush or bull rush!!!!!!!!!!!!

As anyway WHO has ever played Sports before, you play even HARDER if your COACH or HC/DC is a TRUE LEADER or has the CHRISMA to INSPIRE you to play either to or above your natural athletic abilities.

cynical is being kind. I would hate to live an existence like these guys.
our defense is playing like I've been yearning for the last 10 years.
anybody who knows me knows my motto "defense wins championships".
I want to have Rob Ryan's children.

Spencer is playing some REALLY good football.. I believe it's a combination of it being a contact year and Rob Ryan.

Now that is commitment....
However, to get it done, it will have to be similar to our weak-side crooked counter...no way Rob can get it done with a gut blitz because well....he has too much gut. :)
