New Orleans had until today to sign him to a long-term deal. There is no deadline for trading him this offseason.

No the deal is not dead. New Orleans wants to trade him and we remain the highest bidder at this point. They want more, but Jerry is saying no. Look for this trade to happen, but there is no timetable for it to happen. It's about patience.

Aren't the Saints going to be kind of cap strapped until they unload him though?

Aren't the Saints going to be kind of cap strapped until they unload him though? When they trade him they will free up 7.8 million. They are expected to use that money to work long term deals for Deuce McAllister and other players they want to lock up long term. They need this deal. They've never intended to keep him. They just want something in return on their investment. Their price has been a bit high because no one is taking the bait.

Deal is Dead.

Howards agent is pulling a Plaxico and asking a $16M SB AND $35M Contract. For a 29 year old player that is not even a Pro Bowler.

Kicker is Saints asking for a #2 and Dex.

Time to move on, and use that Cap space we have more efficiently.

I say now that the deadline has passed we start dropping the value of our deal. So if it were for a 2nd round this year, we make it a swap of firsts this year and a 3rd next year. That'll get NO to move their butts.

If the deal is not done by the draft, we will probably choose a DE and the deal could be considered dead.

If we are going DE, I like Pollack and Merriman. I think they'd fit in better in a 4-3 and could be good edge rushers with their quickness. Unfortunately, Merriman wouldn't be there a 20 and possibly not even 11. Pollack will probably be there at 11 and may even be there at 20.

I'm a little scared of Roth and D Cody - seem to have roids written over them. Spears would be good but is more a 3-4 DE or 4-3 LDE.

Aren't the Saints going to be kind of cap strapped until they unload him though?Hard to believe any team needs cap room more than we need a pass rushing defensive end.

Jimmy40 is exactly correct...we need this deal to get some pressure on the opposing QBs. I would think this deal will get done sometime right before the draft since NO will want to get the 2nd rounder to use in this draft, not next. All JJ has to do is sit and wait and eventually they'll have to take what's offered.

Fortunately I think Jerry is thinking about the :money:
and deciding to tell the Saints to :jerk: themselves

I agree, I think we should scrap this trade. THe depth is there for us. We have (2) first rounders and a second rounder, we are in great shape. At this point, Im off this trade all together. I'd rather draft a rookie DE, he should flourish with Ferg, Glover, and ELlis.
