Just looked over the list of unrestricted DE's.. Lets say that the Howard deal is a no-go..

Who is an upgrade over Ogbogu and Coleman? Ogbogu is serviceable in spots as a passrusher, but not for more than 10 snaps

so here goes

Marques Douglas(Ravens)- Possibly the best available?
Carl Powell(Bengals)
Tyrone Rogers(Browns)
Marco Coleman(Broncos)
Kyle Vanden Bosch(Cardinals)
Karon Riley(Falcons)
Kavika Pittman(Panthers) yeah yeah.. I know.. been there done that
Tony Bryant(Saints)
Regan Upshaw(Giants)
Chuck Wiley(Giants)
Bryce Fisher(Rams) I think he just signed with someone?
Erik Flowers(Rams)
Brandon Mitchell(Seahawks)
Chidi Ahanotu(Bucs)

Restricted FA and compensation required
Anton Palepoi(Broncos)- 2nd rd
Raheem Brock(Colts) - 1st rd
Jarvis Green(Patriots)- 1st rd
Brett Keisel(Steelers)- 7th rd
Dequincy Scott(Chargers)- Right Of First Refusal
Kemp Rasmussen(Panthers) ROFR
Aaron Kampman(Packers)- 5th rd
Demetric Evans(Redskins)- ROFR.. another of those been there done that..

Anyone who has spent time with Ray Lewis can be on my defense.

(Notice I said "spent time", and not "done time". ;)

What happened to Colston Weatherton (sp?). I always thought he had a burst and like what I saw, when he got a chance to play. Is he in the arena leauge now ?

Marques Anderson - great 3-4 DE
Jarvis Green - RFA (Would have to work a trade)
Carlos Hall - RFA

Marques Anderson is a safety...Marques Douglas is the DE from Baltimore and is an average player at best...is not a very good pass rusher, has only 12 sacks in 6 yrs

J Green and Hall were both qualified for min 1st rd pick as compensation I believe, we arnt getting either of them and niehter is worth a 1st anyway

C Weatherton plays for the Dallas Desperados of the Arean football league.
He prefers the radio announcers to call him "C Weatherton."

Okay.. one to add

Carlos Hall(Titans).. 7th round compensation.. I remember he was causing havok in a game his rookie year.. haven't really paid attention since then

I say screw it if those are our options. If we're not gonna do the Howard deal, then just go draft. Put FA on pause until after. None of those guys excite me at all.

Hall is my favorite out of those... Could we be waiting until the last minute to make him an offer?

He is from Arkansas, you know... :)

He's a quality 3-4 DE, They aren't the guys getting the sacks. But believe he had 5 last year. Not shabby. Browns have him in - they know his value....

That was also a point I was trying to bring about on the sly... Not a whole lot out there in the UFA or RFA market. As an unrestricted option, I think Douglas is the best option. But is Douglas an option in the 4-3? And more importantly, what sort of money is he looking for? Hall looks like a very good get for a 7th round compensation. Can he play the 3-4 DE if we use that scheme?
