Props to Chocolate Lab at the Ranch for the recap...
--------------------
Had several comments beyond just the Howard issue...
-- Is Howard coming here? Not sure. They want him, and they *can* reach a deal with Howard's agent Gary Wichard at any time. The issue is the compensation to the Saints. Archer was at New Orleans (or was it Miami?) when they did the big Ricky Williams trade, and the Saints were good about waiting out the Dolphins to get what they wanted. Thinks that's what's happening here -- both sides are waiting for the other to blink. Deal is far from dead, though. Suggested that the Cowboys could be waiting to see if the Saints lower their offer, and if they don't will do the deal for what the Saints are asking. There's really no hurry, so why not wait.
-- Why is Parcells reluctant to trade Dat when he loves big LBs? (Show hosts are in favor of letting Dat go if need be.) There's an exception to every rule, and Dat is the exception. Parcells loves Dat's dedication, work ethic, and instincts on the field. You know, Parcells did draft Tedi Bruschi, so he doesn't always go for big guys. Some guys have the instincts and playmaking ability to overcome a lack of size.
-- What about safety? There just isn't anyone out there that they really like. Arturo Freeman? Someone like that is all there is. Not sure what they will do there.
-- What's going to happen at RT? I think it's going to be Tucker -- they see something in him. Or, don't forget about Kurt Vollers. He played very well the last three games. You didn't hear Javon Kearse's name much that last Eagles game, and they didn't give him much help with Kearse. He could be the guy. But having a solid anchor at RG instead of Gurode not really knowing what was going on will help the RT whoever it is.

Thanks for posting Lab's recap, D. good stuff.
I Like Archer's take on the Howard trade. If there's no urgency, why not wait it out. See what happens. If not still prepare for the draft as if the trade is not an option.
Nice guesswork on his part, no substance - no trade
Wichard the other night said he had not heard from Cowboys in days....

Not about the agent and Howard. It's about what compensation will it take to satisfy the Saints. Right now, looks like the boys aren't willing to pay what they're asking. All it takes is a phone call and the negotiations are back on.

If they already have parameters in place for a contract ready to go once the Saints approve compensation, what's there to talk about?

No deal.

Interesting comments on Tucker and Vollers. I am betting one of those guys is the starting RT this year. Poor Gurode, that guy must be dumber than a box of rocks.
Still would like to see the team bring in Howard.

No you take the cake with the "Ty Law just showed up in Pittsburgh unannounced and knocked on the door comment" CLUELESS!
When in fact he had two days worth of meetings with Steelers.....

I have to agree with Nors on this one... I think the Howard deal is pretty low on the totem pole right now.

I disagree. I think they are still interested in the deal.
New Orleans and Dallas are having a showdown. First one to blink loses.

Personally David I think I would just keep our pick and then grab the kid from Maryland at #11, trade down from #20 and somewhere and pick up a speed WR, a FS and a LB.
I would consider that to be a very nice offseason AND we still have some coin left to pick up a little more depth.

I've linked multiple threads on Laws 2 visits with Steelers. Please post your link to his knocking on Cowhers door! How does that work - did he ride his scooter into Steelers complex and start knocking on doors? Dude, you serious?

DAAAAVEEEYYYY,
Please answer what you started.
David is full of it - he has ducked this on multiple threads.
He keeps stating Law just "showed up" at Pittsburgh for those two visits. Again, how does that work? Does he ring doorbells? Does he go building to building? Does he go to the Stadium? How does that work David?
He flew to Kansas City Monday, Was that trick or treat too?

I wouldnt be opposed to it, though the advantage with Howard is we know for sure what we're getting...Merriman is intriguing though

ok, now will you shut the pie hole? Not only did Pasquarelli run this, but I believe Don Banks did as well...

>>>Punts: Pittsburgh fans shouldn't start envisioning former New England cornerback Ty Law playing in black and gold in 2005 just yet. The Thursday visit to Steelers officials was initiated by Law, not Pittsburgh management. Law resides in nearby Aliquippa, Pa., and, as he continues to recover from foot surgery, is trying to make sure teams don't forget about him in free agency<<<

And how many queries do you duck? About 98%. I encourage you to look up the word hypocrite in the dictionary. I think you might see your picture.
On to Law, that was a rumor reported by a radio station that Law initiated his own visit that has been floating around message boards. I saw it at some other site, but I think it was one of these rumor based types. Pittsburgh had said they had no interviews lined up for that week and then interviewed Law. There was mutual interest on both sides after that which I suspect led to the second interview.

link no works - but DUH - Players agents do initiate visits too. Teams not interested it does not happen. Mutual interest equals meeting. Dude was not knocking on doors asking for a visit.....
Law was such a pain in the *** he forced his way into a second meeting with Steelers following Monday! :p:

Junk :
I duck NOTHING, I stand up to all and go in the face of "acceptance" and safeness.
Law did NOT DRIVE HIS SCOOTER INTO STEELER PARK UNNANOUCED! Two meetings later verifies that,
Those that think Law just walks into team complexes ringing doorbells are LOCO.

Please post a working link, Law did not drive his scooter around Steelers compound hoping for a "visit". And that second visit was not Law strong arming the Steelers again!.... :p:

Whatever. Any time I post a reply to you with facts or actual questions when you are incorrect, I never get a response. I am not the only one.
I agree, you don't go in the face of acceptance....or logic. You push your guys constantly and flat out refuse to look at another side of an issue. Most of the time your comments fly in the face of your previous comments. Case in point, William Green and Dwight Smith. Didn't want Smith because he was a thug with gun charges. What about Green? Thug with DUI charges who gotted stabbed in the back (literally) by his wife and is in the substance abuse program. Or how about your beloved Law? Ecstasy and resisting arrest. Great.
Same goes for your posts. You feel free to criticize others, but when they do it to you, you sulk and say that you just want to talk football. If it is your idea, it is great, if it is anyone elses, you knock it. Its a two way street, Nors, and I think you wouldn't get as much flak if you weren't so abrasive to other posters.
As far as Law, he probably didn't drive in unannounced, but it is entirely likely that his agent set up the meeting. Just as it is entirely likely his agent started the rumors that he might come to Dallas.
 Nors, give it a rest. Loser.

Anybody here that states they KNOW what is going down is just blowing hot air.

I guess I really don't see how he fits. If Howard is brought in, where does he play? Does Glover ride pine so Fergie can start at nose or does he move to the end and Greg Ellis rides pine so Howard can play. I think we need solid back ups but not for what the supposed started DL (Fergie, Glover, Ellis) would be making. Also, Arson and Ogbogu were good backups last year.
Any suggestions on the rationale of this trade?

If they trade for Howard, they play 4-3 primarily.
Howard is stuck in Oleans. $8m Cap hit to saints.
We have nothing to offer in trade and won't hand out a $16M SB - JMO
There is no activity because there's nothing further to discuss. Howard played a lot of DT last year and at 280 can play both 4-3 and 3-4 DE. He's a 5.0 guy, not an edge speed pass rusher.
