View Full Version : Where Did You Get Your Username?

A lot of people here have names that they clearly chose based on a favorite player (Woodys Girl for instance). But some people have some pretty creative names.
What is the story behind your name?
I got mine because my senior year, we had our homecoming game. I injured my ankle during the game, and had to miss the rest of the game. Afterwards, my friends were asking me if I was still going to bring my girlfriend to the homecoming dance. I said I was, and noticing my limp, a friend made the comment that he was going to just call me "HipHop"...because with my limp I'd he hip hoping all over the place.
Everyone laughed....and I had that nickname for a while.

My user name on every other site that I am either an admin, mod, or member of is Vinny. Its my real name. I changed it here because I didnt want it confused with VT. I've been a Key fan since he was at SC at his numbers 19 so there ya go :D Maybe now that VT's gone I'll go back to being Vinny

phildominator
03-17-2005, 10:52 PM
My name's Philip and one year, I shaved my head and my friends made fun of me because they said it looked like the tip of a _____. So combining that word with my name, people called me Phildo. Playing off of this name, I tried to re-emasculate myself and change it to phildominator.
Why do I feel emasculated again while typing this story? Haha...

03-17-2005, 10:54 PM
Mine's kind of a long story (big surprise, eh??)... I went to college at UTEP in the very early 70s... the basketball coach there was the semi-legendary Don Haskins (so legendary, a movie about him will be released in the next few months)... his nickname, of course, was The Bear.. well, I was a gym rat, and the next best thing to a Haskins groupie... I was ALWAYS talking about the guy, to the point where it annoyed my buddies-- I was a huge hoops head back then... so they took to calling me "Bear, Jr.", thinking it would offend me...
It didn't, and the nickname stuck... fast forward a few years, to about 7 years ago when I first came online... by then, the nickname has taken on a little different connotation, as I started to LOOK a little like a bear... big chest, big neck, big arms, just a big ol' torso in general, but rather short arms and legs... throw in a beard, which makes me look a little wooly, and the picture is complete...
Only thing is, EVERY forum I went to already had a "Bear" registered... it seems to be a fairly common online nom de plume... so I took a look at my now-silver hair and beard, and thought about my allegiances to the blue and silver, and Silverbear was born... I even have vanity plates on my Cherokee that read "SVR BEAR"...
Kangaroo
03-17-2005, 10:55 PM
Which one in sports forms I use Kangaroo which was my highschool massacot
On online games I use Hejtmane which was a name given to johan Ziska who was a Bohemian Hussite general and was a very good one. Hejtmane translate to Captian of the people.
I always have one toon in my last 4 games named this. If you try to use one from game to game that is common it may be taken so I found that one and I have never had it taken before I started playing.
Ok now that I bored you with a history lesson have fun:p:
BrAinPaiNt
03-18-2005, 07:25 AM
I bought mine off of ebay. :D
Mine has nothing to do with actually paint or paint chips...it was a name I picked up long ago on a "trip". I don't go on trips anymore....heck it is rare for me to even drink a beer.
Eitherway I have had it for years along with another nickname.
So I get online years back and decide to use BrainPaint because I thought it made a good online name.
Well many people kept saying BrIan instead of Brain. So then I changed it to BrAinPaiNt so the A is emphasized...but then capitalized the N to balance it out.
Plus at the time I was dabbling in hacking some and it kind of fit.
I thought it was a very original name but apparently someone else (more then one) saw me with it and liked it, then stoled my net name to use for their site....
http://www.brainpaint.com/
Funny thing is that it used to be a graphics site and I have had people think it was mine as I dabble in photoshop and paint shop pro...but I have never had anything to do with the site...now it looks like a different type of site.
http://www.willardmountain.com/Contact.htm (notice the email address)
Once again...nothing to do with me.
I just figure someone HAD to see me over the years on the net and liked the name because it is nothing common...but I have had the name since around 1990.

Danny White
03-18-2005, 10:25 AM
Despite some people in chats thinking otherwise, I am not, in fact, the real Danny White.
DW was the quarterback of the team back when I was an impressionable young lad, and he was my favorite player.
I chose the name not only because I think Danny is underrated in Cowboys history and I wanted to give him some respect... but also because I think the name symbolizes sticking with the team through thin and thick.
If you're a Danny White fan, then you're no fair-weather Cowboys fan. It's easy to be a Troy fan or a Roger fan... but to be a Danny fan, you have to have stuck with the team through some of it's most heart-breaking moments. That's me.

When my parents split, I was sent with my mom. No more Big Gibby to hang around with at the ball fields, so on the High School football field I became Gibby. I chose my name after the greatest candy bar in the known world, the Zagnut candy bar. Precious crumbs of toasted coconut, rolled on peanut butter fudge, coating what might be a crunchy peanut butterish center. I've had a minor addiction for years. I have had to buy them online, as they are not sold in many stores.
I wanted to be Zagnut, but the autocomplete feature of my browser wouldn't let me capitalize the z, so I've lived in lowercase shame ever since.

I hate moochers
I know...moochers are horrible people, aren't they?...lol
Just for the chocolates guy...and godiva chocolate is too rare to pass up. So if it's available, I'll swing by and snag one or two. Everybody knows how much I love chocolate...mmm, mmm, mmm...

I agree about the snickers. I actually buy it, put it in the freezer for an hour and then eat it.
But the best candy by far is Godiva chocolates. Oh man, it's wrong how it melts in your mouth. They're expensive, but since I've yet to buy and mooch off my co-workers when they have some, doesn't cost me much...lol
interesting...the best chocolate I have had to this point in my life, whether liquid or solid form, came from Oaxaca. I spent quite some time studying Mexico's history in Oaxaca and was able to try fresh chocolate. They grow cacao beans in the state and export in volumes.

If you think Godiva is good and expensive you should try Amedei Porcelana. Italian chocolate is the best. At 90 bucks a pound its highly moochable
I got spoiled spending time in Europe and eating the food there and finishing it up with Underberg. European chocolates put American chocolate to shame. I'll stick to Ritter, kinder, Lindt, and Amedei Porcelana.
In a related holiday note, anyone ever tried Kinder Suprise eggs?

With everything I have going in life I just wanted a change. My name was Vinny before VT got here because its my real name. Most people thought I was a VT fan so I changed it to K19. I've followed Key since his days at SC and have always admired his heart and passion for the game. I'll probably go back to K19 eventually once the new-ness wears off this one
Right on.
But you look like you're spying on me through my window.
Please stay away from me.

You're making me blush, silly.
He really is IMO. He's been great throughout his whole career. He was the last of the good Cowboys to leave and when he left, he was still a solid player.
He had a very amazing career.

I'm a blues harmonica fanatic...the guy who has been copied the most, who set the bar for all blues harmonica palyers, was Little Walter...all the major players back then had a signature song...Walter was the only one who's song hit the charts...and it was named "Juke"...

I always thought yours was because of Dorsett's 99 yard run. The juke, then the run :D
