In case you missed it, Marcellus Wiley, our nrew DE from San Diego, was on NFL total Access last night, on the NFL channel's Cowboys Cam. I'll summarize what he said.

*Said he was glad to be out of San Diego, that countless players (young and old) have springboarded their carres after leaving there. He expects the same for himself here in Dallas. He implied that S.D. is so player unfriendly that it demoralizes players from producing at a high level.

*He did like some coaches in San Diego (and he emphesized "SOME", without naming names), and said they were okay. And while he said he does not intend to disrespect the Chargers organization publically, he does understand and agree with Eli Manning's desire to avoid San Diego like the plague. He had a very strong feeling on that.

*Said he likes being in Dallas because of the "STAR" and that he grew up watching the Cowboys because his father is a Cowboy's fan (although he didn't say one way or another if he was a Cowboys fan growing up).

*He said also that the intensity level here at Valley Ranch is like night and day compared to S.D.; that here, players and coaches are seriously talking "super Bowl" - yes, "Super Bowl" - nd they are putting in the kind of off-season work/preparation that is needed to seriously back up that kind of expectation. In other words, it's all busines here and everyone is taking it seriously. He likes that a lot and is participating in kind.

*When asked which of Dallas' defensive players stood out to him the most, he quickly named Dexter Coakley and Day Nguyen as the two guys that work out the hardest and are most serious about preparing for a "Super Bowl" run. Said he was most impressed by these two players work ethic and desire.

*Said he's excited to play for Parcells and that Parcells has not turned the heat up on him yet. In other words, Parcells is not riding him up hard - YET - but he expects that to change in training camp when things go up several notches. He feels he's been working harder than ever and that's why Parcells has not needed to push him more. He said though that he can feel Parcells' presence - watching his every step, and that helps to keep him working hard.

*Said what impresses him most about Parcells is that he is at every workout and practice (not missing even a single one). He then went on to highlight the point that all other coaches routinely miss practices and workouts and leave things up too much to assistants. But Parcells is different in that he's around for it all, and knows everything about anything going on. He likes that a lot and it motivates him to play for Parcells here in Dallas.

That's about it.

this dude or should I say "Dat Dude" is an ivy leaguer so he fully expects to be ridden hard b/c schools like that expect you to have had discipline coming up. The whole school environment is fast paced and very demanding. He has probably been longing for that env. since college.

Thanks for the post. I caught a separate part of the discussion which was by the glenn parker and the other two guys, one who actually suggested we could very well miss the productivity of ekuban. while i'm in agreement that ek was a little underrated as a run defender and a hardworker in general, the guy flat out never got to the qb- but i don't need to tell anyone here that bit of info.

i think BP actually mentioned wiley as a guy who's already caught his eye working out hard this offseason. and while i hate having such a big question mark about a guy, wiley's upside most directly affects the overall team's potential. if he plays anywhere near what he's done in the past, this defense could make the leap from good to great in a hurry.

his comments tied in with some other moves that marty shott has made recently suggest we could be the beneficiary of him just trying to make an example out of a guy.

I'm glad to hear that the coaches and players are talking "Super Bowl run". Even if that may not be a totally realistic expectation, I like that they have the mindset that they are preparing for one.

I'm excitted we got Wiley I was so sick and tired of Ekuban gettin beat all the time he just did nothing for this team!

atleast with Wiley we have the chance at a double digit sack count, last year we didn't impress to many with the least number of sacks (team wise) Parcells I think wanted to see alot more turnovers on defense and now Wiley provides us with that chance

Both VETERANS bring a lot of emotion to the plate. Thats what this team needs to take this to the next level.

thanks for the recap americasfan. I think the Cowboys should have three lineman in that 6-10 sack range. that added pressure could be huge in creating turnovers for this defense.

I agree we have missed out on that emotion since Aikman and company departed

I knew there was something i liked about this guy!!!

for whatever its worth, when u put him in for ek on madden, the D-line gets Nasty!!! This pickup will do wonders for our sack total this season IMO.

we have several players on defense who are ready to make an impact, improving and already solid unit. Wiley has quietly slipped under the radar for the most part, but GLOVER will reap the benefits of having Wiley on the line. both of these guys know how to wreak havoc - they've done it in the past and are just waiting for the right situation to renew that intensity. i think this D-line will be awesome, which is one reason i don't sweat Hunter being starter if needed. book it: wiley, glover, and ellis will all have at least 7 sacks this year...

I totally agree. Glover will be the man. I remember a few seasons back when we played NO and he totally raped Larry Allen. The first time I've seen anyone get the better of LA. With him not constantly having to face double teams he will be back to form. Same goes with wiley . They cant double team them both!

Missed one part of it, I dont know if that was by purpose.

* His comments on Julius Jones and Drew Henson were, that Julius he hasn't had a chance to watch him yet. But Drew, sees him work and notices the quite confidence he has about him. Speculates that come TC, he will make people notice him ( i.e. Drew Henson that is).

nobody will block Blade. my estimation is that Willie will get maybe the center and that's about it playing on a line with bonafide pass rushers like glover, ellis & wiley, not to mention blitzing safeties like roy and woody.
