Phillip Tanner savors first NFL RB action
October, 23, 2011
Tim MacMahonARLINGTON, Texas -- It was DeMarco Murray's day.
All the talk will deservedly be about Murray breaking Emmitt Smith's franchise record with 253 rushing yards on 25 carries, including a 91-yard touchdown.
But Murray wasn't the only impressive rookie running back with a star on his helmet Sunday. Phillip Tanner, the undrafted kid from Dallas' Kimball High, looked like he belonged in his first regular-season action at running back.
Tanner carried six times for 34 yards and a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Tanner, in reference to the Rams giving him 2 yds and steamrollin for 4 more into the endzone...
"That's just getting all the meat off the bone." Love that quote!

Tanner reminds me a lot of MBIII for some reason. He's bigger and faster, and lacks some of the lateral movement, but he finishes runs extremely well, which is what made MBIII so good.
I don't think he's going to bounce off of as many tackles, but he could be used a lot in the same way that Marion was imo.

Good point. He fights hard for the yards, that's for sure.

Thats an awesome quote! I'm really hoping that yesterday is a sign that the running game is going to keep picking up every week (obviously we wont be averaging 290 yards a game on the ground - I know) and we'll start seeing some of these redzone rushing TDs.
I loved the way both Murray and Tanner ran the ball yesterday.

Wow. A humble athlete. Seems we may be filling the roster with the likes of this ilk. :D
