View Full Version : An Ode to Dat Nyugen
OK, maybe not, but I don't want to see this guy traded. I think he knows and has what it takes to be a part of a Superbowl team. I have been watching this guy from his college days. He is all about the team, winning and what it takes to win. We need more of him and his attitude on this team. Not less of him. You put this guy in a defense that can finally pressure the QB and I say this guy has a monster year. He has a nose for the ball and you see some passes under pressure and he'll take a few of them the other way. He is our Teddy Bruschi. Am I the only one that thinks this? Let the bashing begin.

I agree with you....he doesn't sit there as one of our leading tacklers year in and year out by luck. He knows what he is doing.
I don't want him traded away either.
He's probably heard all of his life like Emmitt did that he wasn't "big enough" to lay the position that he does....screw the prognosticators.

I can't help but agree with you. I've been a huge fan of his since the Texan's game where he broke his wrist in the 1st half and never slowed down.

Good college backer, way over his head at this level...
I think his nickname should be "Speedbump" because he always gets run over...Even by the smallest of RB's...
He can't rush the QB, because any RB can easily block him...
He bulked up so much that he lost what little quickness he once had...Now he has trouble getting to the corner to make tackles...
He does make alot of tackles because our awful DC has designed the D for the MLB to get all the tackles and be a star...He isn't...
In fact he makes VERY few er...BIG "plays"
Good guy, bad/average MLB...
For us to become a championship team, we need to get bigger, tougher & better at that very vital spot.

Let the bashing begin.I agree...He is a very good LB. In fact he is the best LB we have. Some would have you believe that good LB's grow on trees and you can replace a guy like Dat with no problem. But the fact is that a truely good LB's like Dat are not that easy to find. I would much rather have a smart heads-up yet still physical LB like Dat who makes more tackles than anyone on the team because he knows when and where he is supposed to be. Much better than a physical monster like Bradie James who has no clue where to be or what angle to take and only gets a tackle because he lucks into the right spot. We need good players and we need to keep Dat Nguyen on this team.

I don't think Dat is the difference between this team making and not making the Super Bowl. He's no Ken Norton.
Gene Lockhart had more tackles than Dat, and look where Jimmy sent the Hitting Machine.
I like Dat and what he brings on the field, but I don't think he's the missing piece to our puzzle.

He is our Teddy Bruschi.
If that is true, our LB corp is in pretty bad shape. I like Dat, his attitude, isn't a problem off the field, 100% team player. But he is a little short on talent and doesn't make plays. He could be replaced fairly easily IMO.

No bashing here. He does his best and I respect that of Dat Nguyen. Trading him would be the mistake of a BP ego and nothing more.

Im undecided.
He played lights out in 2003, and was robbed of a Pro Bowl birth.
He played like garbage in 2004 though.

DAT is a good player, and he'd have to be replaced.
However, he's not going to be a key factor in winning another championship...he doesn't take over games or make huge game turning plays.
If we think Howard is that type of championship player, then we need to do whatever we need to do.
That said, I'm thinking we'll end up giving them a draft pick.

Dat isn't a play maker, he ceretainly isn't Emmitt Smith, he is replacable, if we could have gotten Howard, for Dat and only Dat and didn't pull the trigger, we messed up. No two ways about it...

True 2233boys...
The whole defense is designed for our MLB to make plays and he (Speedbump) doesn't...
If we could get Howard for tiny never make any big plays Datty...That would be a HUGE gain for us!

He's so short on talent that the Saints won't do the trade without Dat being included?
There're so many workout kingkongs but play like Janes. He's a very good LB with nose for the ball. If he's so bad why can't any of the guys we drafted replace him? Steele, James and why don't we go and sign Bell or Hartwell (we got the dough).
If we put some players in front of him, he'll be awesome. Granted he's never going to be Lewis or someone who can take on blockers and win all the battles but he gets his share and just make plays. If you look at the yr prior to last yr, he made plenty of plays behind the LOS.
You can't have Hall of Famers at every position. He'll be a great fit as long as right pieces are around him. Bills knows that and is doing just that by signing Ferguerson.
Lay off the guy that's been the soul of this defense. We be rock bottom and 1-15 without a defensive leader.

I think the entire defense played like garbage not just Dat. Roy didn't exactly light it up either.

There is so much I disagree with in that post that I don't have the time to. Let me just say this...........Dat isn't everything you think he is.

Hmmm, let's check the drafts since he's been here. Any middle LB drafted or FA signed to replace him? Nope. He's not all that but he's not as bad as you think either.

I never said he was a bad player. You read my more into my first post than I put in there. We have had bigger needs that is why is replacement hasn't been brought in here yet. Not to mention he is a "local' kid that is popular and is good enough to do a decent job.
