CHICAGO (AP) — Siblings who feared their brother was one of serial killer John Wayne Gacy's eight unidentified victims were amazed and overjoyed to learn that he's been living in Florida for decades.
Tim Lovell and Theresa Hasselberg hadn't seen their brother, Harold Wayne Lovell, since he left their family's Chicago home in May 1977 in search of construction work. At the time, Gacy was trolling for young men and boys in the area. He was a contractor, and he lured many of the 33 young men and boys he killed by offering them work.

This story annoys me. Must be my cynicism getting the best of me. I don't see it as a happy ending. I see a guy who couldn't take the time to pick up the phone or write a letter to his siblings for 34 years. Why is he so happy to see family he never made an effort to stay in touch with? I understand he had problems with his mom an stepdad, but he is pretending to care about his brother and sister whom he ignored for decades.

That's sort of the first feeling I got.
It's not like he was kidnapped or something and couldn't contact them. He simply did not contact them. That to me means he had zero care to find out about them or let them know he's alright or any of that.
That's pretty crappy to be honest. I'm happy for his sibblings that they've found out he's fine, and they don't have to wonder anymore rather he was one of the people killed, but this just doesn't seem like all that happy an ending to me either.
Maybe I'm just mean I guess.

Maybe he didn't know how to contact them. People change phone numbers and move all the time.

Possibly so. That's quite possible.
If it were my family I think I could find a way to figure out where they were or get their number. It might be hard but it would be possible. This just seems like the guy didn't make any real effort.
I could be completely wrong about that though.

Yeah it reeks of one of those talk show episodes where the son found the dad after 30 years or something but the dad never looked.

I too felt like it was sick that he didn't try to contact siblings all those years.
