What if one of the 3 RBs is there?

If one of these three was the top-rated player on the Cowboys' board when their turn came at No. 11, anyone think Purcells/Jerry would pick him?

It could be an interesting dilemma ... because Julius may not be all that durable and Purcells already has talked about adding someone to share the load.

I doubt that they would do it. Dallas drafted for need early on last year ... it's like they went into the draft determined to pick a RB and an OT with their first two picks.

This year, I think they'll draft for need again and target some sort of combination of DE, LB, FS and WR with their first three picks. The addition of Howard at DE or a veteran free agent FS could change this a little.

Either take our top player of need or look to trade down, but I can't see us drafting a RB or QB at #11 if they fall to us.

To me it would all depend on who else is available, and if there is any trade options worth pursuing.

However, I can not say I would be against it.

There are other options I would rather take, but a 2 headed RB attack with Julius and one of these RB's could be lethal.

I do believe that when all else fails take the best player available.

I wouldn't take Benson or Cadillac at 11, but I would take Brown because he has great hands for 3rd down and he played FB at times for Auburn. He would fit much better into our offense.

If Mike Williams is off the board at that time I start seriously entertaing trade offers. Maybe we could possibly hijack an extra #1 pick for next year and still have 2 for this year and then add another second or third this year.

The only one I'd be tempted to select would be Ronnie Brown. It's not that I think he's better than the other two I just admit, I'd like to see how good he really is with that size and speed. I have always like pound it down your throat RBs. I'm curious if he will be a good one.

I'd take take the best player available, no matter what.

The Cowboys will probably draft for need. Again. Which is why we haven't won a playoff game in a while.

I think Benson and maybe Cadillac as well will be there at 11. I also think there's no way we pick a RB at that spot. Parcells has very definitely drafted for need since he's arrived here, especially in the early rounds.

Folks there is very little precedence (I won't say none because of Csonka/Kiick & Morris) for 1-2 RB punches that significantly upgrade your rushing attack.

IMO, RB by committee = YUCK!

I do think Dallas will grab a back to ease JJ's load and provide capable back-up but I think they'll try to get a 3rd round pick to accomplish it, not our #11.

If someone wants to trade up for one of those backs I would certainly listen but I would also want to make sure it leaves us in line to snag a top RDE as I tend to think the Howard deal is not gonna happen.

BPA doesnt totally apply anymore in this day and age...it has to be the BPA at a position you need help at...

case in point, if you are the Colts and the BPA is a QB when you pick, do you take them? hell no

same thing applies to us...if the BPA available is a RB, TE, SS, OG, C or DE (assuming we get Howard) it makes very little sense to use a premium pick (ie, either if our 1st picks) on that position

I think that is our best shot at trading down really.

There are some teams that need a RB and might be willing to part with a cache of picks to get one as good as the top 3 on this board. You can justify that as a team because the guy gets so many touches. I think a lot of teams would like a back with franchise potential but we already have one. The value would be in a trade down tho it seems we would select Merriman if there due to his versatility and pass rush skill.

I agree completely. We have much more pressing needs than a stud RB, we have one...I don't think we should take an RB at all, unless someone like Sproles is still there in the 4th. He would be a great 3rd down back i think. Other than that, someone will come up who can fill in for a play or two here and there.

Correct Chief... can't see us taking another RB this high. Drafting the "best player available" works in the later rounds but I think when you're talking this much money and the number of holes we have then we need to draft for need for rounds 1 & 2. If we come out of those three spots filling any three of the below holes I'll be very pleased:

i would rather take shelton in the third round he is a bigger back with pretty good speed, try to go defense either johnson, rolle, or merriman at #11, and possible a RT at #20, but munoz out of tennesee looks pretty good in the second round.
