Rob Ryan ready for DeSean Jackson to tackle him Sunday (http://sportsblogs.star-telegram.com/cowboys/2011/10/rob-ryan-ready-for-desean-jackson-to-tackle-him-sunday.html)
-- Charean Williams
Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson said this week that Ryan's comments were "uncalled for" and expressed his displeasure at not being able to take a shot at the defensive coordiantor Sunday. "It ain't like I can run on the sideline and tackle the coach," Jackson told Philadelphia reporters.
"I know that Jackson said it’s not right for me to comment, and he’s right about that, that I don’t play on Sunday," Ryan said. "I know he wishes I did. I mean, hell, he doesn’t have to worry about tackling me. If he does, he can tackle me. That’d be great, because I’m going to land on his shoulder and put him out. So that’ll be awesome. Hell, he can tackle me two or three times."

It's irresponsible, immature, and senseless. In some way sure, his confidence spreads to the team, but that doesn't need to happen through the media.
All comments like these do is set this team up to be embarrassed. He backs up his bark generally speaking, but when there's a bad game from the defense, it sets them up to be completely embarrassed. Furthermore, the players are influenced further by the media backlash.
Just no good come from comments like his.

From a Cowboys fans perspective, yes it's a hoot. But on a more serious note, when a coach of any team talks - even hypothetically as Ryan did - about landing on a player's shoulder and putting them out, well I just think that corsses a line that a coach should never corss. And it potentially puts our own palyers at injury-risk for having cheap shots come their way.

From the article in the link:
"That other deal was unfortunate," Ryan said. "I thought that it was provoked by the media. I’m an emotional guy. Who are we kidding? I’m not some guy [who] just can handle coach speak and be boring. I’m going to be emotional at times, and unfortunately that was one of my times, and I found out everybody listens in this town, which is good, unlike Cleveland. So I got in a little trouble there.

On the other side of the coin is the belief that this puts pressure on the Cowboy`s defense to play better or they will be embarrassed. Ryan is using it as a motivational tool which IMO is not a bad thing. The Cowboys have needed a coach like this for years. Jimmy was the last coach that would talk the talk and walk the walk. I`m a humble guy and believe actions speak louder than words , but for years the NFC rivals have spouted off and took every opportunity to show the Cowboys up. It`s time that somebody answers back , on and off the field.

Jason also said that teams are made up of individual personalities with different emotions. That's life. People need to grow up. Media gets paid to react, report and interview. They love the Ryan's. He makes their job fun. He makes the players job fun, exciting. They're enthusiastic about coming to work and to play. He makes my fandom fun. I couldn't ask for more (than a SB appearance). I'm sorry it makes some "peoples" participation unpleasant.

This is who Rob is. So I want him doing it here. I don't want a watered down Rob Ryan so as not to offend anyone. Screw the other 31 teams and their coaches and players. It's an aggressive, nasty mindset that this team so desperately needs.

It hasn't stopped because players are idiots and don't even realize how much of a fool they make themselves look like half the time.
Igor Olshansky, DeAngelo Hall. Brandon Jacobs. The entire Giants defensive line :laugh2:
Guys like that are fun to beat because they over-value themselves. And there's nothing more satisfying than shutting up someone like that...and that goes from football to baseball to school to checkers imo. The hunger to shut up someone like that, is a great motivation. So why should Ryan say something like that to motivate a guy on another team, especially one whose as explosive as D Jax.
Not to mention the fact that Ryan is writing checks his players have to cash. That's not to say he won't hold himself accountable if they lose, but he does not have to act upon anything. It's real easy to talk when you know nobody's going to touch you.
Again, I love the confidence that Ryan brings. But there's nothing to gain from some of his comments...nothing but media attention. And there's the capacity for strong negative comments. So why do it? Keep your mouth shut.

Oh give it a rest. Ryan admits to being emotional when they got the sound bite out of him. He explained himself. He is who he is. If you don’t like, too bad. The players love him and will play hard for him. This game is already huge. The Eagles season is on the line. Using pre-season trash talking as extra motivation is pointless.
Also, all the tough comments of “keep your mouth shut”...i seriously doubt Rob Ryan cares what someone has to say on an internet message board.

Sure, i agree with keeping it classy as long as the opponent is keeping it classy. But when you have someone saying he is going to “sting that ass” and doing endzone back splashes...well i have issues with it. I am tired of the Cowboys “keeping it classy” while others continue to mock the star and everything it stands for. Enough is enough. At some point you have to stop being bullied and become the bully. Jimmy Johnson did it and we loved him for it.

While I agree its not the most judicious thing to say, it's also not a big deal. I love Rob. He is what he is. You're going to have to take that with the better parts. If he becomes a head coach then he can decide whether to say things like this in the future. I suspect he doesn't care too much although he will likely tone it down some. Again it's not a big deal. Very minor and very funny.

So why do it? Keep your mouth shut.Of course it is fun to beat people who talk. So what? You still have to out perform them.
Jimmy Johnson didn't talk? He is revered among modern Cowboys fans. They imagine scenarios all the time where he comes back, walks on water, and restores us to glory. I already mentioned one of his best comments in this thread.
"Put it in 3 inch high letters we will beat the 49ers." George Seiffert took offense to that a little. He said that Jimmy had balls, and they were going to found out if they were made of brass or paper mache. After we beat the 49ers Jimmy walked up to the microphone and said, "They're brass."
What about his commentary about Buddy Ryan getting his fat butt off the field before he could say something to him?
What about, "The asthma field is over there?"
What about "How bout them Cowboys?"
You think those types of comments didn't make people want to beat the Cowboys?
Tom Landry didn't talk. Jason Garrett doesn't talk. Bill Belichick doesn't talk. Is not talking the only way to ever succeed in the NFL? Damn, no one told Jimmy.
I don't mind a coach being a bit brash. If he can back it up. Don't oever estimate the motivational power of bulletin board material. Yeah, it gives you a bit of a charge, but you still have to go out there and beat that team. Easier said than done sometimes.

Just no good come from comments like his.
Actually, Jimmy Johnson once went on a radio show and said we were going to dominate the 49ers, right before an NFC championship game against them. Guess what? We did. And won a Super Bowl. That's pretty good, isn't it? And a lot of that was because JJ got the team really fired up with his comments. Jimmy was a master psychologist and motivator - you could learn a lot from Jimmy...and Rob.

NFL players and coaches have been talking smack and been talking it for far longer than this and if anything most of the stuff coming out of the league these days is mild compared to some of the things you used to see.

BTW, Rob never once made a jab at Jackson and his playing ability. He mocked the Dream Team label that Vince gave the Eagles. Then he mocked the ridiculous comments made by Jackson, a WR, who never tackles anyone. He has gotten into the head of this mental-midget midget. This was a very smart move on Ryan's part. Jackson tends to make a lot of stupid mistakes.....and I am sure now that he is smarting over the comments, he will be in full hot dog mode, boding well for the Dallas D.
