View Full Version : FSSW: Lance Armstrong takes shot at Jerry Jones
Mr Cowboy

Who knew Lance Armstrong was such a Cowboys fan?
Well, he might not be as much a fan of the Cowboys as he looks to be against the way Jerry Jones has run the team.
Like many Cowboys fans who took to Twitter after the Cowboys were embarrassed Sunday night on national TV by the Philadelphia Eagles, Armstrong was more vocal of the owner/GM than the play of the field.
"If I had a few hundred million bucks I'd buy the Dallas Cowboys then get the hell outta the way," Armstrong tweeted.

It is amazing how many will shoot the messenger rather than the message.
If the most ethical and successful guy in sports had made the comment would it make the message more true or less true? I would say regardless of who made the comment some would attack the messenger.

First there is no such thing and for that matter any individual sports or non-sports. Second I would still shoot the messenger because it isn't Armstrong's or anyone else's place to throw stones when you don't know what is going on or what you are even talking about. Armstrong should just shutup with all the fraudulent activities he has up against him.

Did it? Or was it just expected and therefore not as funny to everyone else as you might have thought it was?

Are you really saying this on a website that is largely dedicated to throwing stones when fans disagree with what the team does? Why does Armstrong have any less right to do it than anyone on this website? We all complain when we don't like what we see (maybe you are here only as a cheeleader), and my guess is that 90% of the Cowboys fanbase would love Jerry to hire a quality GM and get the hell out of the way.

Gotta love this guy here. Loves to tell everyone what is the right way to post and dissect every little word to make himself smarter than he really is. YEAH I'M SAYING IT and I'LL CONTINUE TO SAY IT WHEN NEEDED.

Wow, it always amazes me when people do this. Apparently your memory is short or you are merely just blind to anything except what you want to believe, but YOU are the one telling people how to post. You are the one that talked down Arststrong for how he posted on twitter. What I did was say Armstrong posted in a perfectly acceptible way, and in a way that is commonplace on the very website that you used to tell Armstrong how he should post.
In addition, I pointed out that what Armstrong said mirrors the beliefs of the majority of Cowboy fans, any number of whom have said made very similar remarks on this website.
So you tell me, why is it wrong for Armstrong to print this complaint about Jerry on twitter, but okay for fans to print similar comments on this site?

That content is opinion, which doesn't have factual truth.
So if you don't have credibility, your opinion doesn't mean jack. Lance Armstrong is a cheater, therefore has no credibility. Hence, his opinion doesn't mean jack.

Has it ever been confirmed that he did use steriods? I don't recall him ever facing sanctions or being fined at all.
Either way, credibility has nothing to do with anything here. He said what everyone else was already thinking, its not really a big deal. Something tells me if Mike Ditka or Dirk Nowitzki would've come out and said it, alot of you would be singing a different tune.

My point was never that he was wrong...though there's no way that I'd drop a billion and be completely hands off....just that his opinion doesn't matter :laugh2:

Fair enough. To that point, i'll just add that your opinion doesn't matter either, and that hasn't stopped you from offering 9,272 of them on this message board alone.

Yes you could.. so why do you have such a big problem with what Lance said?
I'll answer that for you.. because you don't like the guy because the media told you not to. You think he doped and is a cheater, even if its not been proven, so you rag on his opinion that's no different from an opinion you or any of us offer every day on this board.
You're a guy posting on a message board.. he's a guy posting on twitter. That's the only difference.

I think you need to go back and read what Lance said. He said he would buy the team and then back off. That isn't his opinion as to what he would do, that is a direct statement about what he would do.
If you or I want to assume what his opinions are, which is probably not too difficult, then so be it. In no way does that have any bearing on whether Armstrong has a right to express his opinion. Neither your blessing nor mine is required for him to do that.
And as for the assumed opinion itself (that Jerry is too meddlesome in football affairs), it's a widespread sentiment among Cowboy fans, and an opinioin that a multitude of fans have expressed on this very website. Should every fan who posts a similar opinion on this website undergo a credibility check before he is allowed to post?

Seems that Lance is still not over Jerry turning down his offer of being the Cowboy's performance enhancement coordinator.

If you'll read my OP...it had nothing to do with Lance. It's in this context, but I'd say the same about LeBron, Barack Obama, Madonna, or Paula Dean. I'm aware that my opinion doesn't matter, but a Dallas Cowboys - or any other - forum is full of that.

If someone says "I would do this..." that's an opinion of what should be done.
And if you're paying attention, you'd see the part where I said I don't believe he's necessarily wrong ;)

My point of saying your opinion doesn't matter either, wasn't to be mean or make you feel bad.. just to try and clarify what you are saying, which i still don't understand.
You realize his opinion is pretty much the same as any of ours, and you even go as far to say you don't disagree with what he said, lol.
So i'll ask again, what exactly is your problem with what he said?

Maybe look at the quote I responded to in my OP. I was just saying that someone with credibility has a more valuable opinion than Lance...or any forum member :laugh2:

So you don't have a problem with anything he said, just wanted to say that his opinion doesn't matter. That should be obvious though, lol. No one's opinion matters to Jerry, other than his own.

No, it's actually a statement of fact about what he would do. As I said, you can make the assumption that his statement of fact is based on an opinion that Jerry needs to get out of the way, and you would probably be right, but it doesn't change that he made a statement of fact.
Nevertheless, as I have said, the opinion that Jerry needs to get out of the way is widespread, and not withstanding your personal dislike of Armstrong, he has no less right to voice his thoughts on the subject than the countless number of others that do on this website and many others.
